We continue to work with federal, state, local, tribal and community partners to
support the ongoing response for Ida. As clean up efforts begin across several
states, this page offers general and state-specific information and resources
related to applying for assistance, post-storm safety and news and multimedia
products.

Learn more about the response to Hurricane Ida across all federal agencies on
USA.gov.

APPLY FOR ASSISTANCE

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

On Aug. 30, President Joseph R. Biden approved a major disaster declaration for
Louisiana to supplement state, tribal and local recovery efforts in the areas
affected by Ida beginning on Aug. 26, 2021 and continuing.

There are three ways to apply for assistance:

 * Online at DisasterAssistance.gov
 * Call 1-800-621-3362 or TTY 1-800-462-7585
 * Download FEMA App from the Apple or Google Play stores

Learn more about the three ways to apply for assistance on YouTube.

FASTEST WAY TO APPLY IS DISASTERASSISTANCE.GOV

Due to current disaster activity, people applying for assistance by phone are
experiencing longer hold times and busy signals. You can apply for assistance
and check the status of your case online at DisasterAssistance.gov. Our agents
will not be able to provide additional information regarding inspections. A FEMA
inspector will contact you prior to your inspection. Please continue to monitor
the status of your case online.

POST-STORM SAFETY TIPS

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Safety is the number one priority after any storm. Be careful in areas with
damage, flooding and power outages.

 * Use generators safely – keep them outside and far away from your home (video
   below).
 * Avoid wading or driving through floodwaters inside, outside and around your
   home.
 * Clean up safely – wear protective clothing and gear, use a mask and ask for
   help moving heavy debris.

Find more post-storm safety tips on Ready.gov and USA.gov.

PSA: USING GENERATORS SAFELY

Gas-powered generators can be a great source of electrical power, but their use
comes with risk. Knowing how to use a generator properly will keep you and your
household safe.

Learn more about power outages and using generators safely in English and
Spanish.

FEMA Region 3 Supports State Partners in Ida Response
“FEMA Region 3 has been in close communication with our state partners,” said
FEMA Region 3 Regional Administrator MaryAnn Tierney. “We have personnel
deployed across the region to support response and recovery operations, as we
continue working with all partners to identify needs and assess damage in
communities affected by Ida.” Moderate-to-major longer-term flooding along the
larger rivers is likely mid- to late week, and perhaps into the weekend in the
same states, particularly in the Schuylkill, Monongahela, Potomac, Susquehanna
