The Supreme Court on Thursday seemed prepared to keep Donald Trump on the
Colorado ballot, expressing deep concerns about the ability of a single state to
disqualify a candidate from seeking national office. The indications from the
justices came as they heard arguments on the unprecedented question of whether
Trump should be barred from the ballot because of his actions around the Jan. 6,
2021 attack on the U.S. Capitol.

HERE'S WHAT TO KNOW:

At issue is Section 3 of the 14th Amendment, adopted after the Civil War to
prevent Confederates from returning to the halls of power and rarely invoked in
modern times.
The Supreme Court agreed to fast-track the case, which is expected to resolve
the issue for all states with similar challenges to Trump’s eligibility.
Here are the states where Trump’s ballot status is being challenged and how
those efforts have fared.
The Jan. 6 siege of the Capitol left five people dead, including a police
officer and a woman shot by police. Two other officers who were on duty that day
later died by suicide, and more than 100 officers were injured.
