While most changes were simple clarifications in wording, four changes may affect hunters during upcoming deer and turkey seasons. PARAGOULD MANUFACTURER SETTLES Prysmian Cables and Systems USA LLC (Prysmian), located in Abbeville, South Carolina, has agreed to pay $920,000 to settle allegations that it violated the False Claims Act by knowingly falsifying test results and failing to conduct required testing on military cable, known as M13486 cable, that was used in vehicles manufactured for use by the military. Local News RAPE CHARGES DISMISSED IN PLEA 41 year-old George Gregory Lynn, of Harrison, pled no contest to ten counts of class Y felony rape in a case opened in September 2021. This month — on July 19, a plea agreement was filed in Boone County Circuit Court and the case was closed. An order for criminal responsibility examination of Lynn was also filed in the case on July 23. The exam request was filed by Lynn's attorney, Dan Hancock. Among the agenda items at the meeting was the condemnation request for a property located at 801 North Chestnut. A hole in the roof of the structure has been haphazardly patched with a tarp, but this ineffective repair has led to the building becoming more and more unstable over time. CREEKSIDE OPENING DAY ANNOUNCED On Thursday, Mayor Jerry Jackson announced the scheduled opening day for the new Creekside Community Center at the regular meeting of city council. The mayor announced that October 12 will be the big day, with plans being made for a morning event. Further details about the big opening will be announced later. MISSING MAN'S TRUCK FOUND IN NEWTON JASPER — Newton County Sheriff Glenn Wheeler said that on Thursday, July 11, Newton County Sheriff’s Office was notified of an abandoned truck on a county road off Highway 74 East between Jasper and Piercetown. A deputy responded to the area and located the truck still on the county road, but pulled to one side so traffic could squeeze by.
