Utako’s Cooking class “Yamamomo”
Japanese home cooking experience

                               


WHAT IS ”YAMAMOMO”

“Yamamomo” is the name of the art studio which my grandmother ran. It was a
small house located at the foot of a beautiful mountain, which I used to visit
every summer. There, people of all ages and backgrounds came together through
art and creativity, becoming friends, learning from each other, and spending
cozy time with a big smile on their faces.

I loved it, especially the positive atmosphere made by the interactions between
the people gathering there. It was a place for me where I could forget everyday
duties and get more positive.

Unfortunately, the studio has already been closed. It is truly regrettable that
the place I adore so much from my childhood is no longer available. That is why,
I decided to name my class “Yamamomo” to inherit its spirit. 

I want to make my class where my customers can:

 1. respect each other regardless of age, gender, nationality, values or
    cultures
 2. teach and learn from each other and have positive influence
 3. work on things with a positive attitude, enjoying the time we spend together

Through Japanese food, I wish to make my class like the studio my grandmother
ran.


WHY JAPANESE FOOD?

“Washoku” has been famous worldwide. It is a food culture that places great
importance on harmony with nature. I believe its philosophy and the
health-conscious approach are the reasons for its popularity. However, what
seems to be booming now is the “washoku” that people pay for at restaurants.

Of course, those restaurants offer fantastic experiences. But I believe that
everyday household dining tables are the places where the culture at the moment
is reflected the most, which I call the “Japanese food”.

Some of my customers mentioned, “We can follow the recipes, but there’s more we
don’t grasp, like the basic way of thinking or physical approach.” I believe
understanding such aspects will enable people to enjoy Japanese food more
deeply.

I wish from my heart that more people from all over the world will enjoy
Japanese food. 

That’s why I am eager to make my  lessons not only teaching recipes but also
sharing cultures and other nonverbal aspects.


ABOUT MY SERVICE

I place emphasis on the following:

 * to provide personalized lessons answering each customer’s requests as much as
   possible.
 * to deepen mutual understanding through the conversations we make during the
   class.
 * to be open and generous about what we can’t do or don’t understand, and
   overcome challenges together

Honestly speaking, I have never lived abroad, so I’m not a very fluent English
speaker. I am not a professional chef, so I can’t cook dishes that require
professional-level skills. However, I am confident in my ability to make you
happy and smile. I will do my best to do so.

My class is suitable for:

 * Those interested in Japanese food but have never cooked it and want to learn
   from the very basics.
 * Those who want to make Japanese food for daily meals, but struggle with
   variations and trying original recipes.
 * Those who want to enjoy conversations and mutual understanding, not only
   learning recipes.

This service is not suitable for:

 * Those who want to master advanced recipes or techniques.
 * Those who expect service delivered in perfect and fluent English.
 * Those who just want to learn recipes.
