He has been with the Royal Shakespeare Company in England since fairly early in his career, making his first RSC appearance in the 1966 RSC staging of The Investigation, a play based on the Stanislaw Lem novel. In 1979 Stewart received the Laurence Oliver Award for Best Actor in a Supporting Role for his role in a West End production of “Antony and Cleopatra”. Throughout the years, Stewart has appeared in more than 60 productions with the Company. Internationally, Stewart is chiefly famous for his work in the United States from the 1980s and onward, especially for playing Captain Jean-Luc Picard in the Star Trek TV-series and movie franchise, and for portraying Professor Charles Xavier in the X-men series of superhero films. Stewart and Hugh Jackman share the Guiness World Record for the longest career as a live-action Marvel superhero. Stewart for his potrayal of Professor Xavier and Jackman for his role as (Logan) Wolverine. KNIGHT BACHELOR Patrick Stewart was appointed a Knight Bachelor in the 2010 New Year Honours for services to drama. His knighthood was conferred by Queen Elizabeth II at an investiture ceremony at Buckingham Palace on 2 June, 2010. UNIVERSITY OF HUDDERSFIELD Since 2016, a building at the University of Huddersfield is named the Sir Patrick Stewart Building in honor of his work at the university.
