UTICA OBSERVER DISPATCH OBITUARIES

Decided we will try to get macaroons shipped for holidays. Need to be patient
since it's a boutique, but well worth it! Had pastry in the car ride home and,
so freaking good. We ended up ordering breakfast in and pastry take out. One
Yelper said: “We were on a short road trip and found this gem.

Wisk Baking Company, which has another location in Old Forge, specializes in
pastries that are made right in-house as well as breakfast and lunch
options.Īmong some of the most mentioned dishes on Yelp are avocado toast,
banana foster French toast, breakfast burrito and classic turkey sandwich.
Located in a picturesque space in downtown Utica, Wisk Baking Company offers
breakfast, lunch, coffee and pastries. The business was established in 2014 as a
startup called Bite Bakery and Café and opened a physical location in Franklin
Square a year later. The place itself is very small and more of a diner so don't
recommend large party gatherings. Golden’s also offers soups and yogurt bowls.Īn
online user said: “Awesome burgers! Best in Utica. Yelpers mention the smash
burger, sausage omelets and crepes as some of their favorites. The small café in
downtown Utica offers breakfast and lunch options, and it is well known for its
burgers. Happy to support this wonderful small business.” Hope they can have a
few tables outdoors when it warms up a bit. There are about 8-10 spots for
dining inside. We took our lunch to go and appreciate the eco friendly
container. I also had the tomato basil soup which was delicious. The meal came
with homemade chips and a delightful tabbouleh side salad (apples& raisins). One
online reviewer said: “Sweet spot definitely worth the stop! We enjoyed the
fresh roasted turkey club on toasted sourdough bread with a tasty siracha/mayo
dressing. Some of the most mentioned dishes on Yelp include sirloin, pantry
salad and the Utica Club sandwich. While the space inside is limited, Pantry 284
has a wide variety of sandwiches and soups and in the summer. You can’t miss
this family-owned restaurant on Genesee Street as it is in a recognizable white
brick building. According to the website, the restaurant’s goal is to be a
movement of change for customers to experience the “development and celebration
of Upstate New York’s progress in agriculture and small business.”Ī reviewer
said: “Let me start with WOW! This place is a hidden gem, farm to table fresh,
flavorfully seasoned, cooked to perfection! The staff is on point and Stephanie
and her crew are wonderful bar tenders! Can't wait to eat here again! Kudos to
the chef!” Some of Yelpers favorite dishes include smoked beef rib pierogi,
charred carrots, Berkshire pork chop or braised pork belly.Ĭhefs JD Smith and
Vincent Petronio created Motus in the fall of 2017 after working together at
Tailor and The Cook. This restaurant and gastropub offers new American cuisine,
and it’s located on Genesee Street. Motus takes its name from Latin, meaning
movement, progress, passion, revolt, according to the website. Buy the Jumbo Pie
because you'll want more the next day anyway. Such a crunchy crust and roasty
tomato and cheese taste. Oh my gosh! Ask for it "Well Done" because it just
wants to be that way. Also known as tomato pie maybe, but they call it
UpsideDown. The restaurant also has fish on Fridays.Īn online review said:
“Jonnys Upside Down Pizza is my new favorite food. Some of the Yelpers’
favorites include hand-tossed cheese pizza, Jonny’s Upside Down or tomato pie,
the Buffalo chicken pizza or traditional chicken riggies. From the sauces to the
pizza dough, the restaurant makes it all homemade.

Established in June 2015, the restaurant offers traditional New York hand-tossed
thin crust pizza and a full Italian menu.

Utica has numerous pizza places, but the one that hits the spot for Yelpers is
Jonny’s Pizza. Here's what to expectĭining: Terrace Café at Munson-Williams a
'happy surprise' Saturday and Sundayīusiness: Stathis Greek restaurant to open
second location in Rome. As good as dining gets in Utica, The Tailor sets new
benchmarks in friendliness, culinary artistry and such a range of tastes.”
Indicating an interest in Finger Lakes wineries started a conversation about
several types of wines and a tasting of one that neither of us had ever had but
will not forget. The menu was filled with competing dishes and our choices were
picked to our tastes the meals were the best we have had in years but, if
possible, the service was even better. One Yelper said: “Resumed going out after
the latest pandemic wave and walking into this fine restaurant was like entering
another dimension. The most mentioned dishes on Yelp were pan-seared scallops,
beet risotto, rainbow trout or filet-mignon.Ĭhildhood friends Chris Talgo and
Tim Hardiman created the restaurant in 2012, a combination of their passions for
“great local food and drink, sustainable business and improving the community,”
according to their website.

ABLETON LIVE PRICE

So far I don’t have any drawbacks towards the upgrade that I did. The Macros,
The Hybrid Reverb, Spectral Time, and other native plugins and effects expanded
new horizons for producers and creators. The second one is the midi polyphonic
expression which controlled pressure, pitchbend, and slide per note. Especially
with Comping which made edits less of a hassle. The move to 11 was totally worth
it especially with the new add-on features that were involved. If you’re new go
for the lite version, if you’ve got the hang of it but are more of hobbyist, I
would suggest the standard version, and if you know your way around the studio,
and are working in the industry, then the Suite is a must. The Lite version, The
Standard, and The Suite. I would suggest an i7 though with a minimum of 16 GBs
RAM since the more loaded the session becomes, the more time it will take to
load material.ģ versions sit on Ableton’s website. Up to 76 GB disk space for
additionally available sound content.Approximately 3 GB disk space on the system
drive for the basic installation.Access to an internet connection for
authorizing.Core Audio compliant audio interface recommended. You can still
create amazing ideas with just a keyboard and a mouse, but the Push is something
else, and mind you, it is not cheap! And Once you get to understand Ableton
fully, the writing process turns into a walk in the park. What’s also beautiful
about it is that it has the Push controller which makes the work and creative
process much more fluid.

Shortcuts are everything for music creators.īefore Purchasing/Upgrading Ableton,
I usually suggest that people try the lite version at first to see if it meets
their expectations, because I won’t lie, not all upgrades were worth it, but the
move from Live 9 to Live 10 was smooth, and the move from Live 10 to Live 11 was
superb due to the many additions that were added to the DAW. Mostly at was at
the 10th generation of this software where the Wavetable synth, and the echo
effect became way better than its predecessors, along with the Press R to
reverse the 0 to mute part shortcut which made life easier for producers. I
remember that each time we had to upgrade to the latest version, more Sample and
Library packs were added to the roster, which in return helped me and others to
dive deeper into sounds and sampling and come up with new ideas. The design and
colors of the software mostly changed after Ableton 9. With every major update,
the guys at Ableton added more and more features. When I first used this DAW it
was very new for me, because I was used to working on Cubase back then, and the
way other DAWs were designed, were far different than what Ableton gave in at
first. I’ve owned MacBooks ever since I was 10 years old and have used Ableton
alongside other DAWs on Apple products. The first release took place around 20
years ago, and as a musician for 2 decades, I have been a user of this software
since Ableton 5. Ableton Live is a one of the most intuitive DAWs to bless the
music production field since its launch.

TORTOISESHELL CALICO CAT

5/4/2023

For example, the gene that controls white coloring, or rather the lack of color,
is not located on the X chromosome. You may be asking, if mom only had black
color genes on her Xs, why is she and one of her male offspring gray? Shouldn’t
they all be black? While the genes for orange and black coat color lie on the X
chromosome, there are “influencer” genes on other chromosomes that can modify
the shade of coat color. Zoey and her sister on the other hand, inherited both a
black X from mom and an orange X from dad. The boys inherited one X chromosome
from mom and one Y chromosome from dad therefore, they were only given one gene
for coat color, which was black.

Illustration of the X chromosome containing a single gene for coat color encoded
by DNA. When her mom gave birth, she had one solid gray boy, one solid black
boy, and two tortoiseshell girls (see illustrated diagram of their family tree).
She received one X chromosome from each parent – one X from gray mom and one X
from orange dad. Zoey’s mom was solid gray and her dad was an orange tabby. My
cat Zoey is actually a good example of how the genetics of calicos/torties work.
Since all females are XX and males are XY, that leaves females with twice the
number of coat color genes compared to males. This gene for coat color is
located on the X chromosome. In cats, the gene (portion of DNA) that determines
coat color comes in two forms (called alleles): orange or black. Males are born
with one X chromosome and one Y chromosome (XY), while females are born with two
X chromosomes (XX). Chromosomes are thread-like structures of DNA located within
the cells that make up our bodies. Genetics also determine our biological or
assigned-at-birth sex, specifically our X and Y chromosomes (in mammals). DNA
determines why we are born with black hair or blonde hair, or with brown eyes or
green eyes. DNA is the blueprint for all living things, including you, me, and
our furry whiskered companions. The answer lies in their genetics or DNA. The
reason why all calico cats are female is the same for tortoiseshell cats. Photo
of my tortoiseshell calico cat, Zoey. My cat, Zoey, is considered a “dilute
tortoiseshell” because the black, white, and orange in her fur are less vibrant,
giving a coat that is more gray overall.

Calicos and torties (as tortoiseshells are often called) can also come in a
variety of shades.

Similar to how all squares are rectangles (have four sides), but not all
rectangles are squares (all sides of the same length). While all calico cats are
tortoiseshell, not all tortoiseshell cats are calicos. Tortoiseshells often also
have smaller speckles of color rather than the large quilt-like patches on
calicos. Tortoiseshell cats are similar to calicos, but can have two (orange and
black) or three colors (orange, black, and white) in their coat (see above
illustration). All calicos have at least three colors of fur. While the pattern
and shade of these classic Neapolitan kitties can vary widely, there is
something they all share in common: all calico cats are female!Ĭalico is not a
breed of cat, but rather a name for a particular tri-color coat pattern. Coat
differences between calico (large splotches of 3 colors) and tortoiseshell
(smaller splotches of 2-3 colors). Image is author’s own work.Ĭalico cats have a
secret hidden under all those cute black, white, and orange spots.

LOGITECH SECURITY CAMERA ALERT COMMANDER ANDROID

5/4/2023

However, this may not be the perfect solution for people who are trying to catch
burglars in the act if they are familiar with your security system. There are no
wires to lay in your house but the power line connection is a lot more reliable
than the WiFi solutions. However, I could see how you may need to watch recorded
video remotely.įor people that want to check on their kids, nannies, or delivery
guy, this is a perfect solution. So far, I’ve haven’t needed any of these extra
features and have not signed up. If you pay monthly, you can also change
settings like in the Commander app remotely and watch recorded video (as opposed
to live video). However, I’ve found that about 50% of the time, at least one of
the 3 cameras that I have setup does not connect properly and cannot be viewed.
There is also a smart phone app (for iPhone and Android) that allows you to see
live streaming video from anywhere. Once done, it’s only a few seconds at most.
Also, initially it can take a while for your computer to “find” all the cameras
that are connected. When I moved cameras around, I did have a little problem
setting up the new cameras and had to reboot the cameras to get the time to be
correct. Since getting my initial camera, I’ve added one outdoor camera and a
second indoor camera. Those prices are not cheap because there’s brains and
memory inside each camera and the data is digital, and not analog sent over a
network. It’s cheaper for the add-on than the entire system because they only
come with the camera side without the computer side. The add on indoor camera
costs $230 and outdoor camera costs $280. This could be a deal breaker for many
people but not for me. One big thing to note is that as of this writing, the
system only works with PCs. This is one of the functions that I was not able to
get working on the Archerfish. At this point, you can also save or delete a
clip. Once it’s on your computer, you can view any of the videos which are
arranged by date/time as shown above.

When you launch the Commander app, it downloads all the videos from the cameras
to the hard drive for backup. This should not be a problem for most people but I
wanted to mention it.Įach camera comes with a 2Gig microSD card (expandable to
32Gigs) which can store up to about a week of video. One quick note is that
there is a click sound when the IR lights come on and off. You can have up to 6
cameras, including outdoors cameras with night vision (IR lights) which
automatically switches modes as needed. The included software is the Alert
Commander which allows you to look at live video streaming from the camera.
After installing the software from CD, I followed the instructions everything
worked the first time. Unlike the Archerfish, installation was fairly easy. You
can force the mount to work but it’s not clear if that’s the way it was designed
to be used. The wall mount also does not allow for all positions depending on
how you use the mount. The base only allows for a small up/down positioning so
basically you’re stuck with the angle that it forces upon you.

I’ve used both the base and the wall mount with some problems. The camera comes
with a desktop plastic base/holder, mounts that allow you to put it on the wall
(like a traditional security camera), and suction cups to stick it to a window.
If you are using this to see if your nanny is doing something wrong, you might
turn off the blinking LED. The LED is programmable to be off, on, or blink when
motion is detected. There is a microphone, a very wide angle lens and an LED
indicator at the bottom.

The indoor camera shown above looks more like a webcam than a security camera.

Navigate to Archive Utility > Preferences. You can locate the application
manually, but it resides deep in /System/Library/CoreServices/Applications. Do a
Spotlight search for Archive Utility and launch the app.

To access Archive Utility’s preferences, follow these steps: On Android, find
the ZIP file in the Files by Google app. On iPhone, find the ZIP file in the
Files app and tap it to extract the contents.

On Mac, double-click a ZIP file to extract it to the same folder location.
Alternatively, Right-click on xz/txz/tar. Settings are sparse, but you’re able
to alter Finder’s behavior and choose what happens to archived and extracted
files. On Windows, double-click a ZIP file, then click Extract All in File
Explorer. Double-click on xz/txz/tar.xz file to open xz/txz/tar.xz file with
Easy 7-Zip You will see files or folders within the xz/txz/tar.xz file then,
click button Extract to extract the xz/txz/tar.xz file. It will start the file
extraction and list the contents of the 7z file once complete. Drag and drop the
7z file directly onto ezyZip. You can also use Archive utility to compress files
when needed.Īdditionally, you can change the way Archive Utility behaves by
accessing the app’s preferences. Click 'Select 7z file to open' to open the file
chooser. A folder with the extracted content will appear in the same location as
the original file, if you haven't altered the default preferences. This method
may be simple, but it does get results. ZipX is an advanced Zip compression
format introduced by WinZip. WinZip mise tout de même sur sa renommée pour

TEXT DOCUMENT EDITOR

5/4/2023

You can skip over much of this complexity if your custom editor is readonly,
such as custom editors for previews. This means that you can use a CustomEditor
for binary formats such as images, but it also means that your extension is
responsible for a lot more, including implementing save and backing.

With a CustomEditorProvider on the other hand, your extension brings its own
document model. CustomTextEditor are considerably easier to implement because VS
Code already knows how to work with text files and can therefore implement
operations such as save and backing up files for hot exit. You can use a
CustomTextEditor for any text based file types. The main difference between
these is how they define their document model.Ī CustomTextEditorProvider uses VS
Code's standard TextDocument as its data model. There are two classes of custom
editors: custom text editors and custom editors. In this case, there is still
just a single TextDocument since there is still just a single copy of the
resource in the workspace, but there are now two webviews for that resource. For
example, imagine that you open a file that has a CustomTextEditorProvider and
then run the View: Split editor command. CustomReadonlyEditorProvider and
CustomEditorProvider on the other hand let you provide your own document model,
which lets them be used for non-text file formats.Ĭustom editors have a single
document model per resource but there may be multiple editor instances (views)
of this document. A CustomTextEditorProvider uses VS Code's standard
TextDocument as its document model and all changes to the file are expressed
using VS Code's standard text editing APIs. This model is how your extension
understands the resource (file) it is working with. The other part of a custom
editor is the document model. Check out our webview documentation for more
information on webviews and best practices for working with them. Webviews
cannot access the VS Code API directly but they can talk with extensions by
passing messages back and forth. This lets you build the user interface of your
custom editor using standard HTML, CSS, and JavaScript. The view side of a
custom editor is implemented using a webview. There are two parts to a custom
editor: the view that users interact with and the document model that your
extension uses to interact with the underlying resource.

LinksĪ custom editor is an alternative view that is shown in place of VS Code's
standard text editor for specific resources. Custom editors build on a lot of VS
Code concepts-such as webviews and text documents-so it may be a bit
overwhelming if you are learning all of these new ideas at the same time.īut if
you're feeling ready and are thinking about all the cool custom editors you are
going to build, then let's get started! Be sure to download the custom editor
extension sample so you can follow along with the documentation and see how the
custom editor API comes together. Then for each of these custom editor types,
we'll cover the basics of building a well behaved custom editor.Īlthough custom
editors are a powerful new extension point, implementing a basic custom editor
is not actually that difficult! Still, if you are working on your first VS Code
extension, you may want to consider holding off on diving into custom editors
until you are more familiar with the basics of the VS Code API. We'll take a
look at the two types of custom editors and how they differ, as well as which
one is right for your use case. This document provides an overview of the custom
editor API and the basics of implementing a custom editor. Building fully
customizable editing experiences for binary or text files.Offering alternative
visual renderings for data files such as CSV or JSON or XML.Creating WYSIWYG
editors for languages such as Markdown or XAML.Previewing assets, such as
shaders or 3D models, directly in VS Code. They have a wide variety of use cases,
such as: Custom editors allow extensions to create fully customizable read/write
editors that are used in place of VS Code's standard text editor for specific
types of resources.

KID3 BEIGE ADIPOCYTE

5/4/2023

"It will be critical in moving forward to determine the specific targets
downstream of mTOR that are causing the negative metabolic effects in order to
create better drugs and one day drugs that might also extend heathspan. "Our
study highlights the complex interconnection between mTOR signaling and
metabolism," said first author Cassie Tran, PhD, a postdoctoral fellow in the
Baur lab. The findings demonstrate a positive role for mTORC1 in the recruitment
of beige fat cells to white fat depots, which could explain some of the negative
metabolic effects of mTOR inhibition. Accordingly, rapamycin-treated mice are
cold-intolerant and fail to maintain body temperature and weight when moved to a
colder environment. In the Diabetes study, the team shows that rapamycin blocks
the ability of cold or drugs that activate a specific neurotransmitter pathway
to induce the appearance of beige fat cells. If activating mTORC1 directly can
bring about the same result, then this approach could potentially be applied to
combat diabetes. While previous studies suggested that mTORC1 inhibition would
promote beiging of white fat cells, Baur's present work supports the notion that
mTORC1 activity is actually required for cold-induced beiging of white fat
cells. In terms of physiology, mTOR signaling is involved in the control of
blood sugar and cholesterol levels, and its inhibition increases the risk of
diabetes. They showed in an animal model that these two arms could, in
principle, be separated to dissect which pathway controls longevity versus
endocrine effects. Interestingly, in 2012, Baur's lab discovered that rapamycin
also causes insulin resistance due to its ability to inhibit both arms of the
mTOR signaling pathway controlled by the protein complexes mTORC1 and mTORC2.
Rapamycin is currently used as an immunosuppressant in organ transplant, but has
recently attracted attention when it was discovered to extend lifespan in mice.
It was first discovered as a byproduct of Streptomycin hygroscopicus, a
bacterium found in a soil sample from Easter Island, an island also known as
Rapa Nui, hence the name. The primary tool used in these studies was rapamycin,
a drug that inhibits the protein mTOR (mechanistic target of rapamycin), which
can be found in two distinct protein complexes. The energy balance within the
body is influenced by brown and beige adipocytes, which are stimulated into
action by cold temperatures and other signals to burn fat and carbohydrates.
Brown-like fat cells, called beige adipocytes, also appear within white fat
deposits in response to cold and other signals.

In adult humans, the recent discovery of brown fat "depots" is also associated
with lower body weight. In fact, babies are born with brown fat along the upper
back and shoulders to keep warm. To do this brown adipocytes are packed with the
powerhouses called mitochondria that contain iron, which gives them their brown
color. While white adipocytes store energy as large fat droplets, brown
adipocytes contain smaller fat droplets and are specialized to burn fat to
produce heat. "Our work suggests that activation of the mTOR pathway plays a
critical role in this process." Induction of beige fat cells is considered a
promising strategy to combat obesity because of this cell type's ability to
metabolize glucose and lipids, dissipating the resulting energy as heat.īrown
and white fat cells, or adipocytes, play different roles in the body. "Beiging
of white fat could be harnessed to fight diabetes by burning excess calories to
cause a decrease in blood sugar," Baur said.
