BEST UK SIM-ONLY PLANS

There are plenty of options when it comes to UK SIM-only packages. Here are our
top picks.

Unlike more traditional mobile carrier networks, there are dozens of options for
SIM-only plans that are all competitive. While it would be impossible to go
through every one, we’ve compiled a few lists to break down the top of the class
providers in certain categories.


TOP 3 BY PRICE

While many of these prices are separated only by a few quid, here are the top
deals, all coming in at £5. I’ve given the rank to the more comprehensive
package.

 1. Lycamobile: £5/month for 5GB of data, unlimited calls and texts.
    * This is an extremely strong deal, as most SIM-only deals at this price
      will not include unlimited calls and texts. I’ve used Lycamobile in the
      past, in the Netherlands actually. Of course, this is a UK article, but
      wanted to highlight the global range of Lycamobile.
 2. Lebara: £5/month for 5GB of data, 1000 UK minutes and texts.
    * Coming in just behind Lycamobile, Lebara offers a very similar package. In
      2024, you’d be hard pressed to find someone who uses more than 1000
      minutes a month, unless you’re the type who likes to fall asleep on the
      phone with your girlfriend. For the rest of us, 1000 is plenty.
 3. SMARTY: £5/month for 2GB of data.
    * If you only need data, SMARTY can give you 2GB for a low rate. However,
      despite being the same price, you’re obviously getting a lot less here.
      That’s not to say you can’t do better spending just a bit more with them.


TOP 3 BY SPEED

 1. EE
    * Given that EE is widely regarded as the best mobile carrier, it’s no
      surprise that their speeds are among the highest you will find in the
      SIM-only space.
 2. VOXI
    * A subsidiary of Vodafone, VOXI’s network is very strong. Not only is their
      speed competitive, but so is their coverage. It is important to find a
      carrier than hits rural, as well as urban areas.
 3. Sky Mobile
    * Coming in at a respectable third is perhaps the biggest name in UK media,
      Sky. While mobile is not their primary focus, their partnership with O2’s
      extensive network allows for them to offer a competitive product and
      network.

Personally, I find SIM-only to be a great way to balance price and utility. I
also am a strong proponent of the flexibility it provides. Too many long-term
contracts leave consumers feeling stuck with their carrier. SIM-only is a breath
of fresh air from the firm grasp of the Big 4.
