I am passionate about wellness and reducing the health risks
associated with prolonged sitting. At the age of 17, I lost my
father to a coronary heart attack, a loss which has driven me
through adulthood to be a force for positive health.
In 2015, I co-wrote the first global Expert Guidelines Statement on
breaking up sedentary behaviour for office workers alongside
leading Professors in UK, Australia and USA. These guidelines
funded by Public Health England for the first time recommend we
convert TWO hours of sitting time to standing or light activity
(during working hours) in order to reduce the risks of prolonged

I created Yo-Yo OFFICE® (umbrella company for Sit-Stand.Com®, Yo-Yo
DESK® & Yo-Yo POD®) in 2014 to market high quality active and agile
office furniture solutions at prices affordable to everyone. Within
9 years Yo-Yo DESK® has become the UK’s best-selling standing desk
brand in its category. We now sell across Europe.

In a British study published in 1953, scientists examined two
groups of workers: London bus drivers and bus conductors. It
concluded that the bus drivers were nearly twice as likely to die
of heart disease as the conductors were.

EXPERT STATEMENT ON THE SEDENTARY OFFICE
BRITISH JOURNAL OF SPORTS MEDICINE
An expert statement jointly commissioned by Active Working CIC and
Public Health England (PHE) published in June 2015 by the British
Journal of Sports Medicine (BJSM).
This is the first recommendation globally on curbing health risks
of too much sitting at work.
"For those working in offices, 65 - 75% of their working hours are
spent sitting, of which more than 50% of this is accumulated in
prolonged periods of sustained sitting".
"The evidence is clearly emerging that a first 'behavioural' step
could be simply to get people standing and moving more frequently
as part of their working day", they say, adding that this is likely
to be more achievable than targeted exercise.

I am passionate about wellness and reducing the health risks
associated with prolonged sitting. At the age of 17, I lost my
father to a coronary heart attack, a loss which has driven me
through adulthood to be a force for positive health.
In 2015, I co-wrote the first global Expert Guidelines Statement on
breaking up sedentary behaviour for office workers alongside
leading Professors in UK, Australia and USA. These guidelines
funded by Public Health England for the first time recommend we
convert TWO hours of sitting time to standing or light activity
(during working hours) in order to reduce the risks of prolonged

I created Yo-Yo OFFICE® (umbrella company for Sit-Stand.Com®, Yo-Yo
DESK® & Yo-Yo POD®) in 2014 to market high quality active and agile
office furniture solutions at prices affordable to everyone. Within
9 years Yo-Yo DESK® has become the UK’s best-selling standing desk
brand in its category. We now sell across Europe.
Yo-Yo POD® acoustic booth has been turning heads since its launch
in 2022, designed with a unique focus on delivering greater

INTRODUCTION
In a British study published in 1953, scientists examined two
groups of workers: London bus drivers and bus conductors. It
concluded that the bus drivers were nearly twice as likely to die
of heart disease as the conductors were.
Regrettably 60 years later, the British public remain in the dark
of the risks of sitting.
Today “sitting time” is rarely mentioned in any media coverage of
heart disease, obesity, diabetes and cancer.
According to the World Health Organisation (WHO) the lack of

EXPERT STATEMENT ON THE SEDENTARY OFFICE
BRITISH JOURNAL OF SPORTS MEDICINE
An expert statement jointly commissioned by Active Working CIC and
Public Health England (PHE) published in June 2015 by the British
Journal of Sports Medicine (BJSM).
This is the first recommendation globally on curbing health risks
of too much sitting at work.
"For those working in offices, 65 - 75% of their working hours are
spent sitting, of which more than 50% of this is accumulated in
prolonged periods of sustained sitting".
"The evidence is clearly emerging that a first 'behavioural' step
could be simply to get people standing and moving more frequently
as part of their working day", they say, adding that this is likely
to be more achievable than targeted exercise.
