ONLINE VISA APPLICATION FOR VISITING JAPAN

Please apply for a visa well in advance.

Attention!

If your application is incomplete, we will cancel it without processing.
Entering incorrect information and/or uploading the required documents
inadequately could lead to a delay of examination or cancellation of your eVISA
application, which may affect your travel plans. 

Some of the Japanese overseas establishments are experiencing delays in
processing applications due to a large number of applications. Please submit
your application well in advance of your travel.  

From September 30, 2023, nationals of Brazil are exempt from visa requirements
for short-term stay. Submitted applications will be cancelled in an appropriate
manner.

WHAT’S THE JAPAN EVISA SYSTEM?

JAPAN eVISA system is an online service which provides a way to apply for a visa
online and issue an electronic visa.
Applicants who meet all of the following criteria may apply for a visa online on
this website. Applicants who do not fall under any of the following criteria are
requested to apply for a visa at the Japanese overseas establishment with
jurisdiction over region.



APPLICANTS ELIGIBLE TO APPLY ONLINE

Eligible persons: All foreign nationals/people who are not subject to the visa
exemption measures implemented by the Government of Japan and reside in the
following countries/region are eligible to apply for a visa online;

Brazil, Cambodia, Canada, Mongolia, Saudi Arabia, Singapore, South Africa,
Taiwan, United Arab Emirates, United Kingdom, United States of America

* Nationals/Citizens of the visa exemption measures countries/region
including Brazil, Canada, Singapore, Taiwan, United Arab Emirates, United
Kingdom and United States of America are exempt from obtaining visas for
short-term stay. Nevertheless, please note that nationals of Indonesia who
reside in the abovementioned countries/region may apply for visa online, if they
don’t possess a “visa waiver registration” (seal or in electronic form).

Targeted type of visa: short-term visa with a Tourism Purpose (for a stay of 90
days or less) (single-entry)

【Note】
▶Only ordinary passport holder is eligible to apply through JAPAN eVISA.
▶The earliest you can apply for your visa is 3 months before your planned travel
date. Applications for the travel planned within a week will not be accepted on
JAPAN eVISA.
▶Applicants are required to log onto the JAPAN eVISA website and display “Visa
issuance notice” at the departure airport on the screen of their mobile devices
(i.e. smartphone, tablet or other devices). PDF data or screenshot of the page
will not be accepted.

▶Following applicants are not eligible to apply online. Please apply for visa in
person at Japanese overseas establishment with jurisdiction over region;
- Applicants who have been convicted of a crime or offence, deported, etc. in
any country.
- Applicants with dual nationality (with Japan).
- Applicants who will apply for a multiple entry visa.
- Applicants who visit Japan by ship.

FLOW OF ONLINE VISA APPLICATION

 * Step 1 Verification of necessary visa to visit Japan
   
   Verify the type of visa necessary to visit Japan, and the documents to
   submit.
   
   Those who do not engage in remunerated activities for a stay of up to 90 days
   for the purpose of tourism.
 * Step 2 Application information entry
   
   Enter the information necessary for the online visa application.

 * Step 3 Notification of examination result
   
   The results of your visa application will be sent to your registered e-mail
   address.

 * Step 4 Visa fees payment
   
   Please pay, if necessary, the visa fees notified to you by e-mail to Japanese
   overseas establishments where you are applying.

 * Step 5 eVISA issuance procedure
   
   Payment required: eVISA will be issued after the payment.
   Free of charge: eVISA will be issued automatically after STEP 3

NOTICES ON VISA APPLICATION




[APPLICATION BY PROXY]

If the application is made by a proxy instead of the applicant himself/herself,
a letter of authorization (optional format) stating that the visa application
work is entrusted to the proxy should be submitted. Please note that the proxy
should download "Visa issuance notice" from the JAPAN eVISA website and hand
over it to the applicant in data or printed out paper format.

[APPLICATIONS BY MINORS]

If the applicant is a minor and not traveling with his/her parents etc., a
parental consent form (optional format) should be submitted.



[FACIAL PHOTO]

When uploading your facial photo, use photo data meeting following conditions.
If the facial photo uploaded is not appropriate, you may need to apply again at
the request of the Japanese overseas establishment.
▶Photo must be taken within 6 months.
▶Don’t use photo retaken from passport, driver license, group photograph etc.



[PERIOD FOR VISA ISSUANCE]

Some of the Japanese overseas establishments are experiencing delays in
processing applications due to a large number of applications, many of which are
incomplete and cannot be examined immediately. Please submit your application
well in advance of your travel.
