All nodes validate the information to be appended to the blockchain, and a consensus protocol ensures that the nodes agree on a unique order in which entries are appended. Consensus protocols for tolerating Byzantine faults have received renewed attention because they also address blockchain systems. The aim of this workshop is to bring together researchers and practitioners working in distributed systems, cryptography, and security, from academia and industry, who are interested in the technology and theory of blockchains and their protocols. The programme of this one-day event will consist of a few invited speakers presenting recent results in the area of blockchains, which are also of interest to the field of distributed computing. Attendance is open to anyone. There will also be some space for discussing open problems and future research directions. Invited speakers Artem Barger, IBM Research - Haifa Iddo Bentov, Cornell Tech, USA Alessandro Chiesa, UC Berkeley, USA Bernardo David, Tokyo Institute of Technology and IOHK Chryssis Georgiou, University of Cyprus, Cyprus Dahlia Malkhi, VMware Research Sarah Meiklejohn, University College London Neha Narula, Digital Currency Initiative, MIT Media Lab abhi shelat, Northeastern University Yonatan Sompolinsky, Hebrew University of Jerusalem Alexander Spiegelman, Technion, Israel Program is available Organization Ittai Abraham, VMware Research Ittay Eyal, Technion, Israel Christian Cachin, IBM Research - Zurich, Switzerland Maurice Herlihy, Brown University, USA Maria Potop-Butucaru, UPMC - LIP6, Paris, France Web page 2018.blockchain-workshop.net Credits Blockchain picture by Davidstankiewicz is licensed under CC BY-SA 4.0
