We're all about a fun and spooky (not scary) holiday and this Mummy Brie is the perfect centerpiece for your Halloween party! With just a few simple ingredients, this recipe takes very little time to throw together and is absolutely delicious served with crusty bread and fruit. Feel free to get creative with the fruit filling. I love using cherry or raspberry preserves, but it's also delicious with apricot jam or blueberry jam. Have a great spooky season! Jump to: * More Halloween recipes you will love. * Equipment * Ingredients * Step by Step Instructions * Serving Suggestions * Recipe FAQs * More spooky recipes to enjoy. * Recipe MORE HALLOWEEN RECIPES YOU WILL LOVE. * Halloween Salad * Pumpkin Pecan Bread * No Bake Pumpkin Pie * Mummy Hand Pies EQUIPMENT For this recipe you will need a baking dish to cook the brie on. I love using my Le Creuset Stoneware au gratin dish , but any similar baking dish will work. You will also need a cutting board, rolling pin and a knife or a pizza cutter to cut the puff pastry into strips. INGREDIENTS * Wheel of brie : You can use double cream or triple cream brie for this recipe. The only difference is that the fat content in triple cream brie is a bit higher, and thus you'll get a creamier consistency. * Puff pastry: I typically use one sheet of frozen Pepperidge Farm Puff Pastry. You can also use homemade if you prefer. * Jam: I love using cherry or raspberry preserves for this recipe. And it's also delicious with apricot or blueberry jam. You can really get creative and use whatever you have on hand. My Blueberry Rhubarb Jam is especially tasty on this baked brie. * Egg yolk * Dried cranberries or raisins: You'll just need two of these for the mummy's eyes. STEP BY STEP INSTRUCTIONS Time needed: 35 minutes How to make puff pastry wrapped Mummy Brie 1. Preheat the oven and thaw the puff pastry. If using frozen puff pastry you'll need to remove it from the freezer about 15 minutes before rolling out. You want it to be pliable enough to roll flat but still very cold. 2. Fill the brie with jam. Use a knife to carefully cut a shallow ring at the top of the brie. Remove the top and then spoon on about 3-4 tbsp of jam or preserves, being careful not to overfill. Then replace the brie top and set aside. 3. Wrap the brie with puff pastry. Once the puff pastry is pliable but still cold place it on a cold surface and use a rolling pin to roll flat. Then use a sharp knife or pizza cutter to slice into strips. Wrap the strips around the brie to resemble a mummy, leaving some open space for the "eyes". Once the brie is wrapped, place on a baking dish and use a sharp knife to cut two tiny slits for eyes. Then stud them with dried cranberries or raisins. 4. Brush on egg wash and bake. Mix one egg yolk with a splash of water and brush evenly onto the puff pastry. Then bake at 400 degrees F for 20-24 minutes until the puff pastry is golden brown and the brie is bubbly. 5. Serve and enjoy! Serve with crusty bread and fruit. Enjoy while warm! SERVING SUGGESTIONS My favorite way to serve this baked brie is on a Halloween grazing board with fruit and crusty bread. Pears, apples and blueberries are great options as they cut the richness of the cheese and puff pastry. RECIPE FAQS How will I know the baked brie is done cooking? The mummy brie is done when the pastry is golden brown and you may notice a little melted brie oozing out. Do I need to do the egg wash? While the brie will certainly taste good without the egg wash it won't have that lovely golden brown shine that makes this dish so festive. MORE SPOOKY RECIPES TO ENJOY. Replace the brie top and set aside. * Once the puff pastry has softened lay it out on a cold surface and use a rolling pin to roll flat. Then use a sharp knife or pizza cutter to cut the puff pastry into strips. Wrap the strips around the brie to resemble a mummy, leaving some open space for the "eyes". Once the brie is wrapped, place on a baking dish and use a sharp knife to cut two tiny slits for eyes. Then stud them with dried cranberries or raisins. * In a small mixing bowl, whisk one egg yolk with a splash of water and brush evenly onto the puff pastry, avoiding the "eye" area. Then bake at 400 degrees F for 20-24 minutes until the puff pastry is golden brown and the brie is bubbly. * Remove from the oven and serve while warm with fresh fruit and crusty bread. Enjoy! A perfect treat for this coming Halloween festivity! Reply 6. Linda October 21, 2023 at 7:48 pm Going to make this soon. Do you wrap the pastry all the way around the Brie or just over the top of the Brie. Thank you. Reply * jamjarkitchen October 22, 2023 at 8:27 am I tend to wrap the strips all the way around connecting them in the back. That way they really stay in place well. After baking sone Brie will leak and sone might get a little mishapen. Perfectly normal! Just use your hands to sort of press things back in place. Hope this helps!
