Sydney II Memorial.

ABOUT US

The GVTGA has been operating since 2005 and started with a small band of
volunteers, who began guided tours of the HMAS Sydney II Memorial twice per
week. The organisation has now grown to 30 volunteer guides who operate daily
tours of the Memorial commencing at 10.30am and other local historic sites in
Geraldton.


OUR TOURS

MEMORIAL TOURS

The GVTGA conduct a daily tour at 10.30 am at the HMAS Sydney II Memorial.

PRIVATE MEMORIAL TOURS

The GVTGA cater for schools, coaches, seminars and other organizations who wish
to have a guided tour of the HMAS Sydney II Memorial at a time suitable to their
schedule.

GERALDTON HERITAGE PRECINCT TOURS

GERALDTON HERITAGE PRECINCT TOUR 2.00pm Tuesday and Thursday commencing from
Victoria House from March to November.




HMAS SYDNEY MEMORIAL TOUR

Tour Features

 * This Memorial of National Significance commemorates the loss of The HMAS
   Sydney II and her crew of 645 men.
 * Our Tour Guides will take you through the symbolism of each element of the
   Memorial and bring to the public the concept of loss and emptiness in
   relation to this tragedy.
 * Listen to some of the stories that have evolved and the finding of the ship
   67 years after the tragedy took place.
 * Meet at the pathway entrance at the Memorial, Gummer Avenue, Geraldton,
   Western Australia.
 * Our guided tours begin at 10.30am on a daily basis.
 * Special guided tours are available on request for coaches, schools or any
   organization who wish to participate. 
 * Tours are by donation.

GERALDTON HERITAGE PRECINCT TOUR

Tour Features

 * Victoria District Hospital Display – Victoria House. Open 11.00am – 2.30pm on
   tour days. An ex-nurse guide on duty.
 * Join the Tour Guides on a tour of the complex and listen to the stories from
   the convict era and the establishment of a local gaol and hospital and how
   the site evolved into a regional prison.
 * Guided walk through hospital grounds which includes Margaret House.
 * Conclude your tour at the Old Gaol and listen to the stories of prison life
 * Visitors are then encouraged to wander through the gaol at their leisure, and
   the Craft Group have items available for purchase.
 * The tour commences from Victoria House at 2pm on Tuesday and Thursdays every
   week during the months of March to November
 * Tours are by donation.
