TOEFL score of at least 583 points (paper-based) or 93 point (internet-based) In lieu of the abovementioned test results and certificates, students who are highly proficient in English may email us at smusummer@smu.edu.sg with a letter from your home university coordinator, verifying your proficiency in English, which will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis. The letter must contain your home university's official letterhead, and the coordinator's name and email address. The email address must be an official email address of your home university. Application Process Applications open January 2023. All applicants are required to pay an application fee of S$150 within 3 days after application submission. The application will only be processed after the fee is paid. The online application process will take approximately 30 minutes. Immigration Matters Student's Pass (Visa) It is mandatory for all international students to have a valid Student’s Pass during their stay in Singapore. The SMU Centre for Global Education and Opportunities (GEO) facilitates the application of the Student's Pass which is under the purview of the Singapore Immigration and Checkpoints Authority (ICA). Nevertheless, students are personally responsible for completing and fulfiling the application requirements for the Student’s Pass before their arrival in Singapore. The Student’s Pass enables students to study at SMU and make exit and entry to and from Singapore. Please note that students are not permitted to undertake any form of internship (paid or unpaid) during their term of study in Singapore. Please note that the Student’s Pass is subject to approval by ICA. The total fees for the Student’s Pass application and issuance range from S$90 to S$120. Fees are determined by and payable to ICA, and are non-refundable. For extension of stay beyond the Student’s Pass validity, a valid visa may be required and students are advised to check with ICA directly. More information on Student’s Pass application will be provided in mid-April. Accomodation The SMU campus is situated near City Hall, Bras Basah and Bencoolen MRT (subway) stations. There are many housing options that are within walking distance and the university is well-served by Singapore’s public transportation network, eg. Trains and buses. While students are responsible for sourcing and arranging for their own accommodation, SMU may have arrangements with off-campus accommodation providers to cater to students’ needs. However, rooms are limited and are subject to availability. Please see below. Students may also wish to explore other housing options in Singapore. However, please note that students should not be renting rooms or houses from private residential properties. According to the Singapore Urban Redevelopment Authority's (URA), private residential properties may not be used for short-term rentals and must be rented out for at least three consecutive months. Students are advised to read and understand all terms and conditions of any housing agreement before committing. SMU does not represent any party if there are any disputes. The SMU Centre for Global Education and Opportunities (GEO) facilitates the application of the Student's Pass which is under the purview of the Singapore Immigration and Checkpoints Authority (ICA). Nevertheless, students are personally responsible for completing and fulfiling the application requirements for the Student’s Pass before their arrival in Singapore. The Student’s Pass enables students to study at SMU and make exit and entry to and from Singapore. Please note that students are not permitted to undertake any form of internship (paid or unpaid) during their term of study in Singapore. Please note that the Student’s Pass is subject to approval by ICA. The total fees for the Student’s Pass application and issuance range from S$90 to S$120. Fees are determined by and payable to ICA, and are non-refundable. For extension of stay beyond the Student’s Pass validity, a valid visa may be required and students are advised to check with ICA directly. More information on Student’s Pass application will be provided in mid-April. Accommodation and Living in Singapore Accomodation The SMU campus is situated near City Hall, Bras Basah and Bencoolen MRT (subway) stations. There are many housing options that are within walking distance and the university is well-served by Singapore’s public transportation network, eg. Trains and buses. While students are responsible for sourcing and arranging for their own accommodation, SMU may have arrangements with off-campus accommodation providers to cater to students’ needs. However, rooms are limited and are subject to availability. Please see below. Students may also wish to explore other housing options in Singapore. However, please note that students should not be renting rooms or houses from private residential properties. According to the Singapore Urban Redevelopment Authority's (URA), private residential properties may not be used for short-term rentals and must be rented out for at least three consecutive months. Students are advised to read and understand all terms and conditions of any housing agreement before committing. SMU does not represent any party if there are any disputes. Lyf @ Ascott Lyf is a new co-living space with a wide array of social spaces. More details can be found here. You can take a maximum of two courses, with one course from each track, or two courses from the same track. Can I take courses from more than one track? Yes, you may take one course from each track. Can I transfer credits to my home institution? This will be determined by your home institution. You should consult your home institution before applying for the programme. Can I change my courses after registration online? Requests will only be assessed on a case-by-case basis. Are there any course pre-requisites? None of the courses require any pre-requisites. Are there any final exams? Some courses will have final exams/tests that will be held during the final lesson. For complete assessment dates, please refer to respective course outline. Will I receive a transcript upon completion of the Global Summer Programme? Students who have completed the programme will receive an electronic copy of the official academic transcript about two months after the release of the final examination results, via their SMU email addresses. Hard copy will not be provided. Accommodation Can I choose my roommate(s) for the recommended housing providers under SMU? Please do contact the housing providers directly. Do note that room-mate allocation is done by them and outside of SMU's control. What if I would like to find my own accommodation in Singapore? You may choose to secure your own accommodation in Singapore for the duration of the SMU Global Summer Programme. Please note that SMU will not be responsible for settling any disputes, problems or complications arising from the accommodation provider and yourself. What happens if I dislike the hostel or hotel I choose? Should you dislike your hostel or hotel, and wish to leave before the end of the period of stay, do note that refunds are typically not possible. We advise students to carefully read all fine print when booking their accommodation, especially regarding deposits and refunds. Miscellaneous Matters Do I need to apply for a student visa? Students MUST obtain a student visa to study in Singapore if they do NOT have a Singaporean Identity Card (IC). More information on the application of Student's Pass will be provided in mid-April. Can I work in Singapore or embark on an internship when participating in the SMU Global Summer Programme? Students who need a student visa to study in Singapore are NOT permitted to partake in any paid or unpaid, part-time or full-time employment or internship during the period of study Singapore. What does the miscellaneous fee include? All matriculated students attending SMU will be required to pay miscellaneous fees which cover IT services, matriculation fee and medical and health insurance. Find out more about your student insurance coverage here. Who is eligible for the 'Early Bird Special' and what are the terms and conditions? The 'Early Bird Special' enables fee-paying students who had not been nominated by any universities or agency to reserve a spot on the popular 3D Modelling and Printing Workshop if they complete their application for GSP and make all necessary payments before 2359 hours 28 February 2023 (Singapore Standard Time GMT+8). Spots are available on a first-come-first-serve basis and students who are successfully allocated a spot will be informed by June 2023. SMU reserves the right to terminate or change the 'Early Bird Special' without prior notification should the Workshop be fully subscribed or cancelled due to unforeseen circumstances. When will I know if I have been accepted? You will be informed about the outcome of your application via email, within 3 to 7 working days, after the submission of application. When can I apply for the programme and when do applications close? Applications for GSP 2023 will open in January 2023 and will close in April 2023.
