My name is Vanessa Gonzalez, and I graduated from California State University, Stanislaus, with a bachelor's degree in Liberal Studies. I'm passionately pursuing a Teaching Credential in Social Studies and a Master's in Higher Education Student Affairs. My goal is to complete these programs by May 2025. My first experience in the classroom occurred during my initial classroom observation hours for a college course. I opted to immerse myself in both a kindergarten and a third-grade classroom, attending four days a week. As I observed, I meticulously took notes on the teachers' instuctional methods, classroom management techniques, and student interactions. I actively participated by assisting the teachers with tasks such as helping students with assignments and organizing learning materials. Additionally, I was fortunate to have opportunities to lead mini lessons under the guidance of the teachers, which allowed me to apply what I was learning in my coursework to real classroom situations. Following my classroom observation hours, I was hired as a preschool teacher's assistant where my primary role was to support the lead teacher in various classroom activities. This included assisting with daily routines, preparing materials, and supervising students during activities and playtime. A signigicant part of my responsibilities involved providing small group instruction, prioritizing my focus on early literacy and numeracy skills. One highlight was when I had the opportunity to plan and lead class lessons for a week under the guidance of the teacher, which strengthened my confidence in classroom management and lesson delivery. After my first year, I expanded my role to also serve as a second grade teacher's aide while continuing in preschool. In this dual role, I led small group lessons, particularly in reading groups, where I was able to apply my understanding of differentiated instruction and support student learning. This position allowed me to meet parents who were in need of a private tutor during the summer. I served as a private tutor, where I designed personalized, hands-on activities tailored to each student's needs and learning style. The positive feedback from parents underscored the effectiveness of these engaging methods in promoting comprehension and retention. This experience reinforced my belief in the power of innovative teaching approaches and further fueled my passion for education. After concluding my role as a teacher's assistant, I transitioned into my first position in the Los Banos Unified School District as a behavior support assistant. In this role, I focused on working closely with students who had specific educational needs. My responsibilities in this role centered around providing one-on-one instruction and support to students, particularly during behavioral and academic interventions. Additionally, I assisted virtual speech pathologists by facilitating smooth transitions between students and aiding in tasks that required physical presence, such as guiding students through therapy sessions and providing additional support as needed. This experience allowed me to further develop my skills in personalized instruction and collaborative support for students with diverse learning needs. Currently, I'm a substitute teacher for the Los Banos, Turlock, and Ceres Unified School Districts. Becoming a substitute teacher has significantly broadened my classroom experience, particularly through numerous long-term assignments I have undertaken. Through these experiences, I have immersed myself in diverse educational setting and allowed me to engage with students at a secondary level for various subjects and extended periods. These experiences have fueled my eagerness to transition into a full-time teaching role. Alongside pursuing a teaching credential and a Master's in Higher Education Student Affairs, I am dedicated to realizing my dream of becoming a teacher and making a meaningful impact in the classroom. As an aspiring teacher, I am dedicated to making a positive impact on students' lives and fostering an inclusive learning environment.
