The Roots of Rey is Margo embracing her roots as an accomplished Latin Jazz
musician, presenting a modern American & Latin American songbook reimagined for
the times. Performed by Rey in English and Spanish and arranged by
multi-Grammy-winning pianist, Oscar Hernandez (Spanish Harlem Orchestra), the 13
songs cover some of the most memorable work from composers like Leon Russell,
Hoagy Carmichael, and Michel LeGrand, and also includes an inspired 10- year
anniversary salsa arrangement of Rey’s original jazz composition, My Heart’s
Desire and Mi Gran Deseo.

NEVER 2 LATE FEAT. JOHN OATES

 * ARTIST

   Margo Rey + John Oates

 * RELEASED

   March 31, 2015

 * GENRE

   Adult Contemporary Pop

Never 2 Late is an upbeat AC pop song that displays Margo’s signature melodic
flair and vocals. Following her last releases, “Colours” and “Tempted,” Margo is
not stopping anytime soon to write inspiring songs for her fans and collaborated
once again with Rock n Roll Hall of Fame songwriter, John Oates on this latest
release. The song is one of several that the duo has penned together but, the
first song that she and John crafted the music and lyrics simultaneously. “It
was a joyful experience and I’m blessed to call him my friend and songwriting
partner. John also honors this recording with his gorgeous Hall and Oates
harmonies. It’s a message that kindness makes everything better because it is
human nature to desire kindness and the need to be understood.” said Margo in a
2015 interview with Indie Music Digest.

Margo’s alternative pop songs have captured a worldwide audience with her
unforgettable melodies, groove-oriented arrangements and enduring, socially
conscious lyrics that always blend a variety of organic sounds with every bit of
emotion. The Indie Music Digest says, “Her musical/vocal style is cut from the
cloth of Celine Dion, Bonnie Raitt and Shania Twain.”

“This Holiday Night” is a confection that lifts moods and leaves no bitter
aftertaste. Drink deeply. – Lance Wright, All What’s Rock

“This Holiday Night” celebrates that same indomitable spirit and, as a result,
it isn’t a stretch assuming that what listeners are encountering with this track
is the same thing they hear in earlier songs like “Colours” and “Never2Late” – a
personal statement, a musical reflection of Margo Rey’s deepest truths,
unadulterated, no chaser. Margo Rey’s long and winding journey through the music
world has brought her in touch with virtually every genre and anyone familiar
with her will astutely note how she picked up something new from each stop.

There is an innate musical genius that’s propelled her from earliest years of
classical training through popular tenures in all-girl rock bands, power pop
trios, Latin-influenced jazz fusion and musical theatre. Additionally, Rey
understands the value of presentation and her music excels thanks, in no small
part, to superb production that frames her vocal instrument in the best possible
light. This Top 5 Billboard charting Christmas classic, “This Holiday Night”,
serves as a timely reminder of her unique place in our modern firmament of
stars. It’s hard to not hear this song and feel that, like everything else she
turns her hand towards, that recent personal challenges helped shape the song.
Rey is a two-time breast cancer survivor and it isn’t difficult to detect
immense gratitude underlying her vocal and the lyric material. “This Holiday
Night” is an unusual Christmas musical offering for a number of reasons, but one
of the primary causes is thanks to its resolute and refreshing desire to avoid
clichés. Rey’s songwriting invokes some familiar Yuletide themes, but
surprising, even poetic, intimacy is among the song’s strongest merits.

The amount of specificity is another surprising aspect – this sort of song
typically contents itself with hitting a handful of recognized sweet spots
before backing out in a cloud of schmaltziness. Rey never comes close to that
and leaves the listener wanting more. Such offerings are usually lush, even
overwrought, musically, but “This Holiday Night” is melodic and surprisingly
nimble. Rey thankfully spares listeners any music of the spheres nonsense and,
instead, her voice waltzing around the song’s lilting melody carries us away.
Piano and strings dominate the musical performance, but the production touches
are so light and well-balanced that each facet of the recording seems to move
forward to its conclusion as one instead of varying parts welded together to
form an uneasy whole.

There’s a sly air of familiarity in the melody as if the songwriting intuitively
understood the value of strengthening musical connections between this original
composition and other, older Christmas songs. There’s an upbeat, forward-looking
spirit imbuing the best of Margo Rey’s music. It isn’t silence and smiling
arrogance in the face of life, but instead, it’s a bright-eyed recognition of
the gifts and blessings that waking each day brings to our lives. “This Holiday
Night” is a confection that lifts moods and leaves no bitter aftertaste. Drink
deeply. – Lance Wright – All What’s Rock

HABIT

 * ARTIST

 * RELEASED

 * GENRE

   Pop AC

The Rolling Stones’ songs, “Heaven” and “Miss You”, inspired the concept of my
new album, “Habit”. I needed to create something that was lusciously gritty yet
ambient. I made it with what I call, lo-fi elements (70’s recording nostalgia)
because my ears were saturated and overstimulated with the cloned and brittle
sounds of the current pop culture environment. I wanted my voice to sound like
me, not the software that it was recorded on.

“Habit” is a collection of songs with a penetrating pulse that defines my human
condition of late. The album’s 13 songs are a setlist that reflects the myriad
of contrasting events and emotions I had during the creation of “Habit”.
Everyone has a habit or two, be it positive or negative. A habit can be the
ultimate distraction, what slowly kills you, or what sets you free so, choose
your habits wisely. I hope you start with mine. Margo Rey
