On July 1, 2022, a panel of four medical flag officers from the United States and Australia met to discuss joint-medical readiness during the 2022 Rim of the Pacific Exercise (RIMPAC) Medical Symposium at Sharkey Theater on Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam. The theme of the medical symposium was "interoperability." The panel members discussed how international partnerships and standardization can improve patient outcomes if and when medical assets are called to respond to a wartime situation or humanitarian crisis.

U.S. Military Departments Implement Brandon Act to Improve Mental Health Support
</h4>

The three military departments have officially implemented phase one of the Brandon Act with their own policies and procedures to initiate support to service members’ request for mental health assistance.
The Brandon Act was signed into law by President Biden on Dec. 27, 2021, as part of the National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2022. The former Under Secretary of Defense for Personnel and Readiness, Gilbert R. Cisneros Jr., signed a policy on May 5, 2023, to initiate the act within the Department of Defense.

Cmdr. Todd Eppel, a dentist assigned to Navy Medicine Readiness and Training
Command Pearl Harbor (NMRTC PH) performs a dental exam on the Mobile Dental Unit
on Aug. 4, 2022, aboard Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam, Hawaii. MDUs go the
extra mile in promoting the medical readiness of the fleet by bringing dental
care to the warfighter. NMRTC PH's dental clinic on wheels administers dental
exams to Sailors pier-side three times a week in support of ensuring a medically
ready force.

DEFENSE HEALTH AGENCY REGION INDO-PACIFIC PRESS RELEASE
The Defense Health Agency Region Indo-Pacific (DHAR-IP) today announced that it
will extend offering medical assessments to impacted civilians exposed to Red
Hill contaminants beginning April 10, 2023.

MASS CASUALTY INCIDENT RESPONSE DRILL
On August 11, 2022, Navy Medicine Readiness and Training Command Pearl Harbor
took part in a quick- reaction, scenario-driven drill to evaluate their response
to a mass casualty incident, should one occur. The drill evaluated NMRTC-PH’s
ability to alert staff and respond to the installation’s requests to support the
Federal Fire Department.

RIMPAC MEDICAL SYMPOSIUM FOCUSES ON INTEROPERABILITY
On July 1, 2022, a panel of four medical flag officers from the United States
and Australia met to discuss joint-medical readiness during the 2022 Rim of the
Pacific Exercise (RIMPAC) Medical Symposium at Sharkey Theater on Joint Base
Pearl Harbor-Hickam. The theme of the medical symposium was "interoperability."
The panel members discussed how international partnerships and standardization
can improve patient outcomes if and when medical assets are called to respond to
a wartime situation or humanitarian crisis.

U.S. MILITARY DEPARTMENTS IMPLEMENT BRANDON ACT TO IMPROVE MENTAL HEALTH SUPPORT
The three military departments have officially implemented phase one of the
Brandon Act with their own policies and procedures to initiate support to
service members’ request for mental health assistance. The Brandon Act was
signed into law by President Biden on Dec. 27, 2021, as part of the National
Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2022. The former Under Secretary of
Defense for Personnel and Readiness, Gilbert R. Cisneros Jr., signed a policy on
May 5, 2023, to initiate the act within the Department of Defense.
