Box 265 Kill Devil Hills Directions Coupons Email us The mission of the Outer Banks Sporting Events is to organize sporting events and competitions, promote healthy living lifestyles, and provide financial resources for needed relief and education, all while contributing to the economic health of the Outer Banks of North Carolina. Outer Banks running events have become very popular, due, in part, to the legendary beauty of the area. But the athletes who run Outer Banks races also have come to expect the kindness of support that they receive from the residents during their time here. Of course, many locals run these races too, and plenty of friendships have been forged along the miles. But let's not forget the after-race parties! They are a big draw for the fun and comradery that come as a natural part of the euphoria (and beer!) after each race. Lots of participants add to the festivities by dressing up for these Outer Banks runs: leprechauns, pirates and tutus (just because!), so feel free to express yourself while you're putting in those miles. To assure your place in these Outer Banks races, be sure to register early! And, btw, plenty of our participants are walkers, so if you're new to these events, we want you to know that you'll feel just as much a part of the races as the runners do. OUTER BANKS RUNNING EVENTS WE'VE HOSTED The Running of the Leprechauns – Come get lucky at the annual Running of the Leprechauns, as we kick off our season with this festive 5K & 10K. The 10K route includes portions of gravel trail (approx. 2 miles) and is a loop. The 5K is all on the road and is an out-and-back course. Flying Pirate Half Marathon Weekend – Run with the ghosts of the Wright Brothers as you meander the Memorial Trail on the edge of the picturesque Albemarle Sound. Sea oats, herons, egrets and sound views create a relaxing start to your 13.1 mile-long journey. Outer Banks Triathlon – Swim-Bike-Run! The Outer Banks Triathlon starts with a swim in the Croatan Sound on Roanoke Island, Manteo. Two days of multi-sport racing including 2 distances, Olympic and Sport. Aquabike options too! Outer Banks Marathon Weekend – The TowneBank Outer Banks Marathon, winding its way through the natural beauty that is North Carolina’s Outer Banks, is like no other Outer Banks race.
