The amount of gentle parenting I have to do towards people telling me that they
want to write a romance novel but 'why does it have to end happily' and almost
always also coupled with 'I'm going to advertise it as romance with depth' is

Book Four: How did You Get This Number by Sloane Crosley. I picked this up
secondhand after seeing Sloane at the Melbourne Writers Festival one year and
just being obsessed with both her humour and her perfect, perfect hair. I'm

Book Five: The Ten Thousand Doors of January by Alix E Harrow. The first time I
picked this up, I just could *not* get into it. I think I wasn't in the mood for

I will never get over how (so many) American recipes are all, first we add a
literal mountain of sugar. Next, if you have spices in your kitchen, then just
maybe put them next to the mixture, that's close enough, maybe just over there
by the sink? Don't want to go overboard on the spices there...

My husband is going on six months of long service leave as of this evening. He
plans to use the time to reset, reprioritise, and rest. I plan to use the time
