CMS Surveyor “Culture Change” Guidelines have broadened the definition of
Activities to include...
#1. Activities may be provided by all facility staff, volunteers, visitors,
residents, and families.
#2. Medication, therapy, and bath/shower schedules are to enhance activity
attendance.
#3. Residents who need assistance are to be transported to and from activities.

To comply with CMS Guideline #1 above, regarding activities provided by others
outside of the Activity Department you may ask, “How can CNAs provide
Activities?” The 5-Volume Alzheimer’s Series gives you several hundred simple
activities that can be left in resident’s rooms for CNAs and all staff to use.

To comply with CMS Guidelines #2 and #3 above, concerning how to get department
cooperation in the areas of changing schedules and transporting, you may ask,
