WELCOME TO JAZZ SKILLS!

MY GOAL IS FOR STUDENTS TO BE INFORMED, INSPIRED AND TRANSFORMED

Join now

THE APPROACH

Good playing doesn't automatically equal good teaching.

Learning jazz should be more than getting people to copy the notes you're
playing.

Playing jazz involves learning a set of skills (not just tunes).

Jazz is a language that can be organized.

Teaching appropriate skills for each level and aiming for clear progress targets
works.

Members are students and every student matters to me. All questions are answered
and the content I create is often based on the struggles that students may be
going through.

WHO I HELP

I work with pianists who are just getting into jazz, all the way up to those who
teach and perform.

 * Pianists who are new to playing jazz, learning the chords and common chord
   progressions in jazz.
 * Those who think they've tried every theory book, course and video but still
   aren't fluent.
 * Advanced players looking to improve chord movement, voicings, improvisation
   and general playing level.
 * Not just pianists. We have members who are mainly guitarists or horn players
   too.
 * Those interested in learning Barry Harris chord movements, voicings and
   improvisation techniques.

WHAT YOU'LL LEARN

Students here learn to speak the language of jazz.

You'll learn chords in keys, the common chord progressions used in every jazz
standard, solo piano with full right-hand chord melody, playing in a group,
improvisation from scratch, rhythm, authentic voicings and chord movements.

How to learn it all with a structure that gives the best results.

HOW WE'LL DO IT

My teaching consists of videos, smart practice tracks, webinars
and individual help.

I teach on 3 levels

 1. Learning the chords, common progressions & comping several tunes in a few
    keys

 2. Voicings, right-hand melody. Beginning improvisation. Rhythmic
    considerations.

 3. Advanced voicings, movements, improv concepts and more.

My teaching method is based on having taught over 40,000 one-to-one lessons and
teaching Jazz Skills members for 9 years.

WHAT'S INSIDE

DEVELOPING FLUENCY
COURSE OVERVIEW

This part of Jazz Skills is a step by step course that covers a lot of ground.
Although it goes from the basics of building chords and progressions, It is not
just for people who are new to playing jazz. It is also for those who may know a
few tunes or know some jazz theory but still don't have freedom in their
playing.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

WILL I BE GUIDED STEP BY STEP?

Jazz Skills is not just a mess of lessons that you have you navigate yourself.

Everyone begins with the Developing Fluency course. New students and experienced
players all report that they get a lot of value from it.

It trains you to really know:

 * Chords
 * The necessary chord progressions to play jazz
 * What to do with each hand
 * Inversions
 * Putting them into tunes
 * How to learn it all

You will unlock each section by answering a few multiple-choice questions about
what you've just learned.

After this, you will transition to the main members' area where you will have
more freedom but still be guided.

You can contact me personally for help and feedback on your playing at any
time.

IS THERE SUPPORT FOR MEMBERS?

Yes! I am committed to the success of every single student.

I answer every question and members can send video/audio of their playing for
feedback from me.

As a member, you will also be invited to my monthly members' webinar. This is a
live lesson where members can type questions or comments. If you can't attend
live, there is a replay.

The webinar archive alone is worth the cost of membership.

Webinars are normally taught on 3 levels so they are suitable for all students.

Webinars are edited and chaptered with resources where appropriate.

WHAT LEVEL DO I NEED TO BE?

As long as you've played some piano before, there's plenty for you.

This is the only place I know that actually works for all levels.

We have members who are just getting started with jazz and learning the
chords. Those who can play a few tunes but don't have any real freedom.
Experienced players who play gigs.

WHY IS IT CALLED JAZZ SKILLS?

Because people typically focus on tunes and decorative elements of playing
without being skilled in the foundations of chord progressions, the language of
jazz and the habits to turn information into fluency.

At Jazz Skills, students focus on being able to play what they're learning with
enough fluency to be creative.

DO THE LESSONS WORK ON ALL DEVICES?

Yes they do.

You can use a computer, tablet (such as an iPad) or even a phone.

The only time people run into trouble is if they use outdated browsers. We
recommend Google chrome.

HOW DO I CANCEL MY MEMBERSHIP?

You can do this yourself from your profile.

First of all, if there's something I can do to help you get your playing to the
next level, you can contact me directly (using the contact button) and I will
help you personally.

If you still want to cancel your membership, you can follow the steps below.

 * Log in to your account.
 * Click on your Avatar from the page header.
 * Select Settings from the dropdown.
 * Click Billing Info in the top right of the page:

You can then manage your payments or cancel your subscription.

IS THERE A GUARANTEE?

Yes absolutely!

I'm only happy if you are too.

😊

Please try a Jazz Skills subscription and if you do not think I have helped you,
just ask for a full refund within 14 days.

No hard feelings!

CAN I UPGRADE/DOWNGRADE MY MEMBERSHIP?

That's no problem.

You'll find instructions in the members' area FAQs. Just click the help button
once you're inside.

DO YOU ADD NEW CONTENT?

Yes!

The minimum amount of new material is the monthly members' webinar which is an
hour of content for all levels. There is an edited chaptered replay with
resources where applicable.

However, I'm always trying to improve the site in various ways and adding new
content where appropriate. This includes new lessons and video answers to
questions from members.

HOW MUCH IS IT IN MY CURRENCY?

To convert to your own currency just enter the amount and select your currency.

Monthly £24.99 Quarterly £19.99

Please note that the final amount you will pay is based on the conversion rate
that your bank gives you. You will see the exact amount at checkout before you
make your final purchase.

ARE THERE ANY DISCOUNTS?

Our standard membership is: Monthly £24.99

For 20% off, we have a Quarterly discount of £19.99

What about other options like Annual?

I haven't raised membership fees in 9 years but in that time, the value that
members receive has increased massively. In the early days, there were less than
a hundred lessons (now probably 500-600), we also have a members webinar now
with a large archive. We have smart practice tunes and exercises that transpose
(and do much more) and access to individual help from me with the ability to
send audio or video to me for help directly from Jazz Skills. The costs of
running the site have continued to increase for me as well.

If we do start an annual membership option in the future, it will probably be at
the cost of the current quarterly option. This would mean that the monthly and
quarterly options we have now would go up in price (but not to current members
who keep their membership active).

Therefore, the best and most flexible deal would be today's Quarterly option as
it would be the same price as any annual plan we might implement but with more
flexibility and less commitment.

I'M A GUITAR PLAYER. SHOULD I JOIN?

Several guitarists (and other instrumentalists) join Jazz Skills and have
reported being happy and learning a lot.

I can provide basic advice regarding voicing application, although I'm certainly
not a guitar player.

ABOUT ME

I became addicted to Jazz as a teenager and went on to study with the great
pianist Barry Harris for about 17 years. I am just like the students, on my own
journey and working every day to improve. My passion is demystifying jazz to
make it clear for people to learn.
