UPDATES

3 MAY, 2024

It’s 17 years since Madeleine was taken from us. It’s hard to even say that
number without shaking our heads in disbelief. Whilst we are fortunate in many
ways and able to live a relatively normal and enjoyable life now, the ‘living in
limbo’ is still very unsettling. And the absence still aches.

Your support continues to encourage us and bolsters our strength to keep going.
We know the love and hope for Madeleine and the will to find her, even after so
many years, remains, and we are truly thankful for that.

Thank you again for remembering Madeleine and all missing children.

31 DECEMBER, 2023

Another year comes to a close. I'm sure they're getting shorter!

Whilst there is no new significant news to share in the search for Madeleine,
efforts continue with the same determination, commitment and vigour. We believe
such perseverance will eventually yield results.

Thank you again for your support, Christmas wishes and shared hope.

Despite our own personal circumstances, it is impossible to be unaffected by the
awful events happening around the world this year with so many wars,
immeasurable pain and suffering, children abducted, killed and orphaned.

Let's' hope that 2024 brings a greater love for mankind, hope and peace to us
all.

With our best wishes for the new year.

4TH MAY, 2023

I am writing this message to the media in general. I expect it may not appear in
print or on-line but hope that it will spark a conscience in some.

As we do every year, we gathered in our village yesterday evening to mark the
anniversary of our daughter Madeleine’s abduction. It was a special event and
lovely to sense the hope and warmth of those who were there.

I was dismayed, however, that this sadly provided an opportunity for a local
journalist to exploit the presence of our younger daughter who does not wish to
be photographed or interviewed and was made to feel uncomfortable, especially at
such a special moment of hope for Madeleine.

Our son and daughter turned eighteen this year - but I truly hope this will not
make them targets for those journalists looking to make financial gain.

Please can I appeal to you that you respect our children’s privacy and let them
live their lives.

3RD MAY, 2023

Today marks the 16th anniversary of Madeleine’s abduction.
Still missing…….still very much missed.

It is hard to find the words to convey how we feel.
The poem below, by Clare Pollard, resonates strongly with us:

The Contradiction

The absence contradicts itself:
the missing conjures what we miss.
You are not here, I’m not myself,
but still I talk to you like this.
You’re in the crowd, the news, the glimpse -
I make you there when you’re not there.
I trace your steps, I map your face,
I say your name, see you in air.

You’re all I know and so unknown.
I cannot hold you, yet I do:
please let me hold you in my head
and where you are now, hold me too.
How can you be so near and far?
You are not here. But here you are.

The police investigation continues, and we await a breakthrough.

Thank you to everyone for your support- it really helps.

Kate and Gerry

HAPPY NEW YEAR

We'd like to wish all our supporters a very happy, healthy and peaceful 2023. As
has been the case over the many years without Madeleine, the kind messages of
support and Christmas wishes which we have received have brought that extra
touch of warmth and hope to our lives. Christmas and other celebratory events
will never be the same with our family incomplete but we continue to make the
best of our situation whilst never forgetting or giving up.

We head into the new year with continued determination and positivity.

May 2023 be a good one for us all.

With our best wishes and eternal thanks.

DECISION OF EUROPEAN COURT OF HUMANS RIGHTS: MCCANN AND HEALY V PORTUGAL
(APPLICATION NUMBER 57195/17)

We are naturally disappointed with the decision of the European Court of Humans
Rights announced today. However, much has changed since we started legal
proceedings 13 years ago against Mr Amaral, his publisher and broadcaster.

We took action for one and only one reason: Mr Amaral’s unfounded claims were
having a detrimental impact on the search for Madeleine. If the public believed
that we were involved in her disappearance, then people would not be alert for
possible clues and may not report relevant information to the relevant law
enforcement agencies.

The focus is now rightly on the search for Madeleine and her abductor(s). We are
grateful for the ongoing work by the British, German and Portuguese police. We
hope that with, the help of the public, hard work and diligence we can
eventually find those responsible for Madeleine’s disappearance and bring them
to justice.

MAY 2022

This year we mark fifteen years since we last saw Madeleine. It feels no harder
than any other but no easier either. It’s a very long time.

Many people talk about the need for ‘closure’. It’s always felt a strange term.
Regardless of outcome, Madeleine will always be our daughter and a truly
horrific crime has been committed. These things will remain. It is true though
that uncertainty creates weakness; knowledge and certainty give strength, and
for this reason our need for answers, for the truth, is essential. We are
grateful for the ongoing work and commitment of the UK, Portuguese and German
authorities as it is this combined police effort which will yield results and
bring us those answers.

As always, we would like to thank all of our supporters for their continued good
wishes and support. It is a huge comfort to know that regardless of time passed,
Madeleine is still in people’s hearts and minds. Thank you.

STATEMENT FROM KATE AND GERRY MCCANN- 22ND APRIL, 2022

We welcome the news that the Portuguese authorities have declared a German man
an “arguido” in relation to the disappearance of our beloved daughter Madeleine.
This reflects progress in the investigation, being conducted by the Portuguese,
German and British authorities. We are kept informed of developments by the
Metropolitan police.

It is important to note the “arguido” has not yet been charged with any specific
crime related to Madeleine’s disappearance. Even though the possibility may be
slim, we have not given up hope that Madeleine is still alive and we will be
reunited with her.

MAY 2021

Every May is tough – a reminder of years passed, of years together lost, or
stolen. This year it is particularly poignant as we should be celebrating
Madeleine’s 18th birthday. Enough said.

The Covid pandemic has made this year even more difficult for many reasons but
thankfully the investigation to find Madeleine and her abductor has continued.
We hang on to the hope, however small, that we will see Madeleine again. As we
have said repeatedly, we need to know what has happened to our lovely daughter,
no matter what. We are very grateful to the police for their continued efforts.

We still receive so many positive words and good wishes despite the years that
have gone by. It all helps and for that we are truly grateful – thank you.

GOODBYE 2020

What a year! One we don’t want to remember but will find it hard to forget.

There’s no doubt that 2020 has been tough for most people, and often
distressing, with so much loss, worry and isolation. Despite losing a parent
each, we are aware we have been more fortunate than many, with our family unit
at home and jobs to go to. Understandably, the investigation to find Madeleine
has been forced to slow down as a result of the pandemic. It hasn’t stopped
however and the hope, energy and determination to find her and uncover the truth
remain steadfast.

We are very grateful for the continued support, especially throughout this
‘rubbish’ year and for all the Christmas wishes too. Thank you.

Our thoughts and prayers are with everyone who has suffered this year. Let’s
hope 2021 is a brighter, more positive one.

With our best wishes for exactly that.

OPERATION GRANGE STATEMENT: JUNE 19, 2020

The Met received one letter from the BKA on 12 June, which was passed to the
family. The letter did not state that there was evidence or proof that Madeleine
is dead, the MPS continues to investigate Madeleine’s disappearance as a missing
person investigation. No letter has been received by the Met from the German
prosecutor.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

KATE & GERRY MCCANN STATEMENT: JUNE 16TH, 2020

Since the recent police appeals regarding Madeleine’s disappearance there have
been many inaccurate stories reported in the media.  The widely reported news
that we have a received a letter from the German authorities that states there
is evidence or proof that Madeleine is dead is FALSE.  Like many unsubstantiated
stories in the media, this has caused unnecessary anxiety to friends and family
and once again disrupted our lives.

As we have stated many times before, we will not give a running commentary on
the investigation- that is the job of the law enforcement agencies and we will
support them in any way requested.  Furthermore, we do not have a family
spokesperson nor are we actively paying any lawyers.  Any recent comments
attributed in the media have not come from us unless they have been posted on
our website.  If there are important developments that can be made public, they
will be issued through official police channels.

KATE & GERRY MCCANN STATEMENT: JUNE 3RD, 2020

We welcome the appeal today regarding the disappearance of our daughter,
Madeleine.

We would like to thank the police forces involved for their continued efforts in
the search for Madeleine.

All we have ever wanted is to find her, uncover the truth and bring those
responsible to justice. We will never give up hope of finding Madeleine alive
but whatever the outcome may be, we need to know as we need to find peace.

We will be making no further comment regarding the appeal today.  We would like
to thank the general public for their ongoing support and encourage anyone who
has information directly related to the appeal, to contact the police.

Thank you.

13TH ANNIVERSARY OF MADELEINE’S ABDUCTION (3RD MAY 2020)

I don't think any of us could have predicted the situation we all find ourselves
in currently. It shows how easy it is to become complacent with our lives and
circumstances, albeit a totally normal and understandable, human characteristic.

It is now 13 years since we were last with Madeleine. Her 17th birthday is to
follow in the next couple of weeks….the latter tangibly, painfully, bringing it
home to us what we have missed and continue to miss as a family.

We are very conscious that many families around the world are experiencing
similar feelings at this time……being separated from each other and with many
having lost loved ones prematurely and unexpectedly. There will also be many
vulnerable people whose situation will have become even more precarious in the
current lockdown conditions, with fear, worry and isolation - emotions that we
dreaded Madeleine experiencing and which haunted us for a long time - and still
do on occasions. Our thoughts and prayers are with all those suffering at this
time.

We have been fortunate to spend more time together as a family since lockdown
began, an enforced block to a usually frenetic life, a silver lining to this
dark cloud. It has made us think about Madeleine even more, as she would have
shared this period of special closeness with us too.

The investigation to find Madeleine remains open and continues, even though, in
a way different to the ideal. We remain grateful for the ongoing efforts and
commitment from all those involved in the search to find her and we hope and
pray, as always, that our efforts will be fruitful.

Thank you to everyone still offering their support and good wishes for Madeleine
and ourselves. Such solidarity continues to strengthen us. Thank you.

Please take care and please spare a thought or prayer for Madeleine and all
missing children this weekend.  Here's hoping that more 'normal', safe and happy
times are close at hand.
