A retired United States Air Force Command Chief Master Sergeant with over 30
years of service; Dave Nordel holds a bachelor's degree in registered nursing,
specializing in emergency medicine, and a master's degree in disaster and
emergency management. Dave is a Bronze Star combat-decorated medic and the
recipient of the Legion of Merit, our nation's 6th highest military decoration.
He operated in Saudi Arabia, Somalia, South America, Iraq, Korea, Japan, and
Hungary.
Dave grew up in a dairy farming family in rural Northern California, and left
home at age nineteen to join the Air Force, ascending through the enlisted ranks
to culminate as the senior enlisted leader for all nuclear missile forces in the
United States. He has vast experience leading both small and large groups of
people, and has led city government activities and large organizations as an
emergency manager for multiple communities through the Covid pandemic and other
disaster situations.
As the author of the international best-selling book Giving Back: Life and
Leadership from the Farm to the Combat Zone and Beyond, Dave founded Max Fab
Consulting, providing keynote leadership, organizational growth, and strategic
guidance. Dave is actively involved in using his journey with PTSD to help
transitioning veterans and other victims of trauma deal with the condition in a
healthy manner. He is an active mentor and speaks to young leaders to aid their
development and future success, and continues to give back the gifts he has
collected along the way.

sharing of the author's personal and active duty experiences. I even teared up
at certain points of the book. It's hard not to. I have read many books on
leadership and have taught classes on the subject, but this one goes to the top

This is a book that does not belong on a dusty shelf once read. It needs to be
on everyone's desk or place of work readily available to reference, get
inspired--especially when you are preparing for a leadership role--daily and
long term. I can't wait for the next book!

military or the farming industry, you can learn something about these two worlds
and expand your knowledge!

This book is a must have, it’s a quick down and dirty on leadership, the lessons
are quick and thought provoking. This book needs to be on the shelf of every
leader, self-help guru, and parent.
Most leadership books are hundreds of pages and go on and on with overly
complicated and examples out of touch with most readers. The author finds a
thought provoking down to earth way to speak to the core of leadership without
making it feel like a road map.
I have often found myself walking away from self help books thinking I have all
the answers, but caught in a paradox of trying to recreate their effort or stuck
to their model . Dave does a fantastic job of giving tools and little bit of
guidance for you to apply to your own world. This is a book that I’m folding
into my annual reading to keep these point top of mind.
Growing up, my father used to say I was just like him, and it drove me wild, I
wanted to be my own individual. As I made my way through this book I realized
that it is a gift to be cut from the same cloth as a parent, you can learn from
all their mistakes and capture all their success.
