WOOLIES AND COLES TAKEN TO COURT OVER ALLEGED MISLEADING PRICE DROP CLAIMS

We have commenced separate proceedings in the Federal Court against Woolworths
and Coles supermarkets for allegedly breaching the Australian Consumer Law by
misleading consumers through discount pricing claims on hundreds of common
supermarket products.

DOMESTIC AIRLINE COMPETITION UNDER PRESSURE ON ROUTES BETWEEN METROPOLITAN
CITIES

Our latest Domestic Airline Competition in Australia report shows improved
conditions for consumers over the first half of 2024.

However, it cautions domestic airline competition may be under pressure on
routes between metropolitan cities.

SUPERMARKETS INQUIRY MOVES INTO NEXT PHASE

Many Australian consumers and grocery suppliers have told the ACCC they are
concerned that some of Australia’s supermarket retailers have considerable
market power and are engaging in practices which disadvantage both their
customers and suppliers.

HAVE YOUR SAY ON THE ACCC'S FOCUS FOR 2025–26

We’re seeking your views on the work we’re doing under our current focus areas,
such as environmental claims and issues in the digital economy, and any new
issues that might affect consumers or competition.

The survey closes 18 October 2024.

FEDERAL COURT ORDERS QANTAS TO PAY $100M IN PENALTIES FOR MISLEADING CONSUMERS

OUR PRIORITIES

UNFAIR CONTRACT TERMS

Changes to the law on unfair contract terms in consumer and small business
contracts came into effect in November 2023.

We are working to help consumers and business understand the law around unfair
contract terms and what the changes mean.

GREENWASHING AND ENVIRONMENTAL CLAIMS

Consumers are now, more than ever, making purchasing decisions on environmental
grounds.

We'll be investigating a number of businesses for making potentially false or
misleading environmental claims.

DIGITAL PLATFORMS

The expansion of digital platforms in Australia has brought benefits, but also
created risks and harms that our current consumer and competition laws are not
always able to address. We're examining these issues as part of inquiries we
conduct and law enforcement cases.

WORK ON SOME OF THE BIGGEST ISSUES FACING CONSUMERS AND BUSINESSES.

Join our team of smart and dedicated people from all walks of life to
collaborate on meaningful matters and make a significant and lasting impact for
all of Australia.
