Why Background “Love Notes from Koh Naang Jorn”, the stage drama by eight secondary students from Tak province, debuted on the night of the Loy Krathong Festival on November 27, 2023, at the Internet Learning Centre of the Thai Network Information Center Foundation. The play was directed and rehearsed by Juad Khemthong Molart. Inspired by the audience reception, the group garnered the motivation to perform the play in Bangkok, to enhance their skills and refine their work to a higher level.” How ? “Love Notes from Koh Naang Jorn” represents one of the outcomes from the “Connect Generations through IT” event, held on October 15, 2023, by the Learning Center of the THNIC Foundation. The event was created to bridge the IT gap between two groups: the elderly and the students, using technology as a medium. During this activity, older adults narrated the past image of the areas around the Ra Haeng city before the sand was excavated from the middle of the Ping River for landfill purposes. The river once stretched up to 2 kilometers wide, but now remains only 500 meters. The seniors digitally “pinned” significant points which used to be along the old riverbank and the juniors recorded what they had heard at each of these pins, digitizing it as “Following the Ping River’s footsteps,” Together with a collection of vintage photographs of Tak city, they displayed the outcomes of their joint community historical archive project. These two forms of archives were found to be lacking vitality, so drama was employed to add another dimension to the story. Why Drama provides a presentation of the same incident that educates, entertains, and stimulates the thoughts of viewers while fostering interplay between them. This becomes increasingly valuable in the creeping digital society. Thus, the Thai Network Information Center Foundation’s Learning Center places importance on cultural activities, promoting children who interact with computer science learning to appreciate this value and develop themselves to be well-rounded — observant, studious, and analytical of abstract representations — leading to crucial traits for potential leaders in this field. The computer system is replete with complex mechanisms that are difficult to describe, even among scholars. However, our continuous development over several decades has relied on real-life abstracts to convey these complex mechanisms among scholars and developers, allowing science to advance. Iconic figures in the computing field have leveraged profound knowledge in social, literary, and cultural aspects to explain desired mechanisms, as exemplified in the past by the “Dining Philosophers Problem” and the “Byzantine Generals Problem.” Hence, fostering cultural awareness and interest in Thai children is beneficial for the development of personnel towards the country’s future in the digital age. The Learning Center will continue to organize these activities as additional tasks to prepare Thai personnel for the forthcoming digital world.
