ICAR > Homepage > Certifications > ICAR Proficiency Test on Bull Semen (PT-BS) ICAR PROFICIENCY TEST ON BULL SEMEN (PT-BS) PREFACE Bull semen analysis is one of the parameters used to assess bull fertility and conception rate in the female served. A robust quality system (QS) to analyse bull semen is strategic for Artificial Insemination (AI) organisations to provide a qualified product to the breeders and farmers. Furthermore, also the instrument manufacturers need QS to evaluate their products and different calibration settings. To analyse bull semen, computer assisted semen analysis (CASA) and flow cytometry are largely used alongside the microscope method. Nowadays, there is no international standard method for bull semen analyses, consequently the criteria and performance of these tests have not been established. For this reason, it is necessary to collect data on the methods used and to provide tools for their analytical quality control. ICAR as neutral organization (not involved in semen production business) has developed a new service of proficiency testing on bull semen matrix (PT BS) in order to: * Assess the analytical comparability for different parameters between the different users * Provide each participant with feedback on their own objective performance and a robust tool for quality control over time. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- SUBSCRIPTION Please fill in the subscription form available here -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- PROFICIENCY TEST INFORMATION More detailed information are available here -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- PRIMARY SIDEBAR WHAT’S NEW Latest news from ICAR here …. * Jenny Bodeutsch has been appointed as new staff member at the ICAR Secretariat (5-August-2024) * The Croatian Agency for Agriculture and Food (Croatia) and France Génétique Elevage (France) have renewed their Certificate of Quality for their respective fields (30-July-2024) * A new publication on “Yearly survey on milk recording systems (Years 2022 and 2023) for cow, sheep and goats” has been made available for downloading (11-July-2024) * Webinar on the “Proficiency Test for the Bull Semen” service has been organsied on 23 July and 9 September (10-July-2024) * First issue of the Newsletter of the Digi4Life EU funded Project (10-July-2024) * Daria Iakovishina (from Breedi) and Jeffrey Bewley (from the Holstein Association, USA) are the new members of the Breed Association Working Group (27-June-2024) * At the last Bled Annual Conference, the following ICAR awards were delivered to: President Award: Niels Henning Nielsen Outstanding Contribution Award: Jean-Michel Astruc Service Award: David B.
