This course covers the skills and knowledge required to provide a first aid
response to a casualty.
The unit applies to all workers who may be required to provide a first aid
response in a range of situations, including community and workplace settings.
 

Delivery Modes: 
The Provide First Aid course is completed via a Blended Delivery format, which
allows candidates to work through self-paced theory content, before being
practically assessed.

Candidates will work through theory content via online modules, prior to
attending a Face to Face assessment date, to complete practical assessments and
demonstrate competence in the required areas.

This course describes the skills and knowledge required to perform
cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) in line with the Australian Resuscitation
Council (ARC) Guidelines. This unit applies to all workers who may be required
to provide CPR in a range of situations‚ include community and workplace
settings.

Delivery Modes: 

This delivery mode allows the candidate to cover the topics and assessments of a
CPR course in an online course and then attend a face to face practical
assessment. Candidates complete their online learning prior to attending the CPR
course.

Access to online learning will be provided via email upon booking. Online
learning must be completed prior to attending the assessment.

Outcomes
This course requires practical application of Resuscitation and other practical
scenarios that will require kneeling on the floor. In order to achieve a

This course covers the skills and knowledge required to provide a first aid
response to infants and children in line with first aid guidelines determined by
the Australian Resuscitation Council (ARC) and other Australian national peak
clinical bodies.

This unit applies to a range of workers within an education and care setting who
are required to respond to a first aid emergency, including asthma and
anaphylactic emergencies. This includes early childhood workers and educators
who work with school age children in outside school hours care and vacation
programs.

This course meets ACECQA’s qualification requirements for First Aid, Asthma and
Anaphylaxis.
 

Delivery Modes: 
The Provide First Aid course is completed via a Blended Delivery format, which
allows candidates to work through self-paced theory content, before being
practically assessed.

Candidates will work through theory content via online modules, prior to
attending a Face to Face assessment date, to complete practical assessments and
demonstrate competence in the required areas.

Candidates will receive access to their online pre-course materials upon booking
into a course. This content must be completed in full before prior to their
assessment date.

Pre-Course Learning
This course requires the completion of an online module prior to attendance at
the course. Only those who have completed the online module in full will be able
to attend this course. (Study time: recommended 3-5 hours).

Course Theory
The course covers a range of water safety topics including safe water practices;
survival in the water; self-preservation; recognising an emergency; assessment
before and during a rescue; priorities for rescue; resuscitation; acceptance of
responsibility; use of bystanders; emergency care; and contacting emergency
services.

Practical Assessments Include
 * Resuscitation: Demonstrate effective CPR.
 * Swim: Swim 400 metres continuously within 13 minutes (100m freestyle, 100m
   breaststroke, 100m survival backstroke, 100m sidestroke).
 * Timed Tow: Swim 50 metres and tow a patient 50m within 3 min 15 seconds. The
   candidate will enter the water wearing swimwear, long trousers and a long
   sleeve shirt, any of which may be discarded as desired.
 * Survival and Rescue Skills: Demonstrate a range of survival techniques and
   appropriate rescues for a range of different aquatic environments and
   scenarios.
 * Spinal Injuries: Basic management of a suspected spinal injury in shallow
   water.
 * Rescue Initiative: Demonstrate initiative in effecting a rescue of two people
   who are in difficulty up to 15 metres from safety.
 * Contextualized aquatic emergency recognition, aquatic emergency response,
   aquatic casualty assessment, and communication in an aquatic emergency
   including injury and incident reporting.


Outcomes
To achieve a Statement of Attainment, candidates must successfully complete the
practical components under the award conditions.

Upon successful course completion of the course participants will be issued with
a Nationally Recognised Training certificate (Statement of Attainment). Units of
Competency achievable through this course include:
 * HLTAID009 Provide Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation
 * SISCAQU002 Perform Basic Water Rescues


Candidates are required to bring:
 * Long sleeve shirt and long pants for wearing in the water
 * Photo Identification

This course is a nationally recognised course for Swim Teachers looking to gain
specialist knowledge in teaching infants and toddlers. 

The Infant & Toddler course will deliver the skills and knowledge required to
create activities for the development of infants (over six (6) months of age),
toddlers and care givers in an aquatic environment with communication techniques
suited for this age range. 

It will ensure that work is performed according to relevant legislation
including working with children and/or vulnerable people checks, organisational
policies and procedures, and best practice principles of aquatic activities.  

The Infant & Toddler program supports The National Swimming and Water Safety
Framework which is a structured and consistent understanding of swimming and
water safety education across Australia, providing the development of water
familiarisation, exploration, and water safety skills. 


Course Prerequisites
Candidates are required to complete a series of online learning modules. You are
required to have access to a computer and the internet in order to access these
online modules.

It is assumed that participants are sufficiently physically fit and healthy to
undertake this course. You are required to communicate and demonstrate the
activity or skill you are wishing your students to perform.  

Please Note: Royal Life Saving Society NSW is not a CRICOS provider; it is
unable to provide national training to overseas students holding a student visa.

Duration
The course will take approximately 4-5 hours (theory online), plus minimum 12
hours mentored practical teaching and on the job workbook to be completed and
obtain your qualification.

Assessments
To gain the Swim Teacher – Infants & Toddler accreditation, the following
assessment components must be satisfactorily completed:  
 * Online theory assessment (completed prior to completing the practical hours
   and workbook).  
 * Practical on the job teaching hours in a learn to swim environment signed off
   by a workplace supervisor.
 * On the job workbook to be completed, signed off by a workplace supervisor and
   submitted to be assessed by Royal Life Saving.


Course Requirements
This interactive course is delivered in a blended format, it requires the
completion of a self-paced online knowledge component followed by practical
hours and on the job workbook.
 
Outcomes
The Royal Life Saving Swim Teacher course contains units of competency which are
nationally recognised from the SIS Sport, Fitness and Recreation Training
package. Upon successful completion of all assessment requirements, candidates
will be issued a Statement of Attainment for the following units:

Swim Teacher Licence
In addition to the successful completion of the online component of the course,

This course is a nationally recognised course for Swim Teachers looking to gain
specialist knowledge in teaching All Abilities. Accreditation is valid for three

The Swim Teacher - All Abilities course will enable you to effectively and
