In order to enrol and receive donations, you must be an official representative of an eligible organisation, and then follow these easy steps: 1. Search for your charitable organisation by name or registered charity number and then select the organisation you represent. Be sure to confirm you are selecting the correct organisation, as many charitable organisations have similar names. 2. Create an organisation administrator account and accept the AmazonSmile Participation Agreement on behalf of your organisation. 3. Verify your email address (we recommend that you use an email address that is associated with your charitable organisation). 4. Submit your organisation’s bank account information. 5. Upload a copy of a bank statement to verify your organisation’s bank account information. What is an organisation administrator? An organisation administrator is an official representative of an organisation that has authority to access and manage AmazonSmile programme information on behalf of their charitable organisation. Why do you need an email address for my charitable organisation? We require a valid email address so that we can communicate important programme information to each enroled organisation. From time to time we will send emails with information about your organisation’s donation amounts and information about AmazonSmile programme promotions. Can you mail our organisation a donation cheque instead of sending an electronic funds transfer? We do not mail donation cheques due to the expense of cheque processing and fulfillment. We distribute donations using electronic transfer to reduce operational expenses so we can donate 100% of the funds to eligible charitable organisations. Will customers still be able to select my charitable organisation if I don’t enrol? If you do not enrol your charitable organisation, including providing accurate bank account information for an electronic transfer, AmazonSmile customers cannot select your charitable organisation to receive donations from Amazon. You must enrol in order to appear as an option for customers to select your charitable organisation. What happens if another person has already enroled my charitable organisation and they were not authorised to do so? If your organisation has been enroled by an unauthorised person please contact us. What are other considerations for my charity? Charities are responsible for obtaining their own legal, tax, and financial guidance regarding participation in the programme. ABOUT AMAZONSMILE What is AmazonSmile? AmazonSmile is a website operated by Amazon that lets customers enjoy the same wide selection of products, low prices, and convenient shopping features as on amazon.co.uk. The difference is that when customers shop through the URL smile.amazon.co.uk, Amazon will donate 0.5% of the net purchase price (excluding VAT, returns and shipping fees) of eligible purchases to the charitable organisations selected by customers. What are the eligibility requirements for charitable organisations to participate? Organisations must be registered and in good standing with the Charity Commission of either England and Wales, Scotland, or Northern Ireland to be eligible to participate. Organisations that engage in, support, encourage, or promote intolerance, discrimination, hate, terrorism, violence, money laundering, or other illegal activities are not eligible to participate. Amazon relies on the Charity Commission for England and Wales, the OSCR and the Charity Commission for Northern Ireland, as well as other statutory law enforcement bodies, to determine which organisations fall into these groups. Charitable organisations must also adhere to the AmazonSmile Participation Agreement to maintain eligibility. Charitable organisations may choose not to participate in AmazonSmile at any time. Although we aim to include only charitable organisations that are in good standing, we cannot guarantee the good standing and/or conduct of any charitable organisation. For complete details, see the AmazonSmile Participation Agreement. How does AmazonSmile work? In order to browse or shop through AmazonSmile, customers must first select a charitable organisation. Once they have chosen their charity they can shop the site as they normally would. Amazon will donate 0.5% of the net purchase price (excluding VAT, returns and shipping fees) of the customer’s eligible purchases. Only purchases made through smile.amazon.co.uk are eligible to generate donations. Is there any cost to charitable organisations or to customers? No. There is no cost to charitable organisations or to AmazonSmile customers. The shopping experience is identical to amazon.co.uk with the added benefit that Amazon will donate to the charitable organisations selected by customers. Do you charge any administrative fees or take any deduction from the donation amount? No. Charities must enrol to receive donations and have a valid bank account to which we can route donations, but there is no charge to participate and we do not deduct any fees from the donation amount. Can charitable organisations outside the U.K. participate? No. Eligible charitable organisations must be enroled with the Charity Commission of either England and Wales, Scotland, or Northern Ireland to be eligible to participate. What are spotlight charities? From time to time we may highlight one or more charitable organisations from the total list of eligible organisations. We do this to make it easier for customers to choose an organisation to support from the many available options, but we do not endorse any particular organisation or the causes they support. To apply for consideration as a spotlight charity, please submit a spotlight charity application. Note that you must first enrol your charitable organisation at org.amazon.co.uk. Sign in to org.amazon.co.uk, then click the Help link at the top of the page, then under General Programme Information, select the Spotlight Charities link to access the application form. May customers make direct donations to charitable organisations through the AmazonSmile programme? The only way for customers to support their selected charitable organisation through AmazonSmile is by shopping at smile.amazon.co.uk. Direct donations are not currently supported. Does AmazonSmile take any portion of donations to fund its operations? No. How do I contact AmazonSmile? To submit a question to the support team, use this contact us form. If I do not want my organisation to participate in the AmazonSmile programme, what do I do? If you do not want your organisation to participate in the AmazonSmile programme please contact us and request that your organisation be removed from the programme. How can we change the AmazonSmile organisation administrator to another person? Sign in to Org Central and select Settings at the top of the page. Click on the "Remove me as administrator" button. Then, a new administrator will need to enrol the organisation and resubmit bank account information. If your administrator is no longer with the company or you believe your account was claimed by someone outside your organisation, please contact us and include a request in your message to remove the current administrator. Also please provide contact information for the new organisation administrator. How do I change my account information such as email address and password? Sign in to Org Central and select Settings and then Edit Account Information or Contact Information. Note that if this same email address is associated with other accounts such as the account you purchase products with, the name, email address, or password will also be changed for your other accounts. How do I update the bank account information for our electronic transfer? Log into and select Settings and then click on the Edit button next to Deposit Method. How can I update my organisation’s name, address, or mission statement? To modify your organisation’s address or mission statement, update your information with the charity commission you are enroled with. Please contact us to request an update to your organisation’s name. What do I do if my organisation’s administrator is no longer with our nonprofit and we need to change the administrator? If your account is enroled with an administrator who is no longer with your organisation, please contact us and include a request in your message to remove the current administrator. Also please provide contact information for the new organisation administrator. RECEIVE DONATIONS How does my charity receive the donations? Each quarter, Amazon makes donations to eligible charitable organisations by electronic funds transfer. Donations will be transferred within 28 days after the end of the following calendar quarter. To account for product returns, we may reduce the amount of donations in a given calendar quarter and add it to the subsequent quarter, subject to any reduction due to returns from prior quarters. See the AmazonSmile Participation Agreement for more details. What happens if we do not enrol our charitable organisation and provide a bank account for an electronic transfer? If you do not enrol your charitable organisation, including providing accurate bank account information for an electronic transfer, AmazonSmile customers cannot select your charitable organisation to receive donations from Amazon. You must enrol in order to appear as an option for customers to select your charitable organisation. How much of the customers’ purchase price does Amazon donate? Amazon will donate 0.5% of the net purchase price (excluding VAT, returns and shipping fees) of eligible purchases to the charitable organisations that customers select. The purchase price for each item is the purchase price, excluding shipping, handling, gift-wrapping fees, VAT, and service charges, and less any rebates, returns, and bad debt. Certain items are not eligible and will not result in donations. What purchases are eligible for donations? Millions of products on AmazonSmile are eligible for donations. You will see eligible products marked “Eligible for AmazonSmile donation” on their product detail pages. Recurring Subscribe-and-Save purchases and subscription renewals are not currently eligible. For more information, see Qualifying Purchases in the AmazonSmile Participation Agreement. In order to receive a donation disbursement, what is the minimum amount my organisation needs to have accrued from customer purchases? The minimum amount a charitable organisation must accrue to receive a quarterly donation is £5.00. If the total donation amount due to your organisation, based on the purchases by all customers who selected your charitable organisation, is less than £5.00 as of the end of a given calendar quarter, AmazonSmile will hold the donation amounts and add them to donation amounts allocated to your organisation in subsequent calendar quarters. However, if you have an accrued donation that remains below £5.00 for four consecutive quarters, Amazon will disburse accrued donation amounts to you in the donation cycle following the fourth quarter, even if the donation amount is less than £5.00. For complete details, see the AmazonSmile Participation Agreement. Can I view the amount of donations my charitable organisation has received? We currently do not provide reports that enable viewing of donations received. I enroled but didn't receive a donation. What happened? You will not receive a donation disbursement if your organisation’s earnings are below the minimum donation amount of £5.00. Note that donations accrued during each calendar quarter are disbursed approximately 28 days after the end of the following calendar quarter. Even if your organisation does not accrue at least £5.00 in donations, AmazonSmile will make a donation at least once per year.
