A rider from Revelstoke has left her mark on the mountains in Virgin, Utah after
placing third in the first ever Redbull Rampage women's event.

Not only did Casey Brown, a New Zealander turned Revelstoke B.C. athlete earn a
spot on the podium, she also won the Mcgazza Spirit Award.

She was awarded the McGazza Spirit Award for her contributions to the women’s
freeride movement, .

Since it's inception in 2001, the RedBull Rampage freeride mountain bike event
has been only been competed in by men.

This year, a new chapter of the legendary freeride event also featured a
competitive women's category.

Redbull Rampage is an exclusive event only open to a handful of riders from
around the world. The invitation to compete alone is a huge honour
for athletes.

Alongside Revelstoke's Brown, Vaea Verbeeck from Duncan, and Georgia Astle from
Whistler, made up three of the eight female riders in the historic event.

Three days before the unique freeride competition begins, athletes and a limited
team of diggers are brought to the previously undisclosed location where the
competition will he held. The three days are filled with sweat, dust and
blisters as teams try to craft the most unique line down the mountain possible
in a limited amount of time. More information on the event is available at
redbull.com.

This year, the event took place in Virgin, Utah.

Each rider will take a unique line down the mountain, with some riders
collaborating and sharing features. The athletes are judged by a panel and given
a score based on difficulty, style, creativity and overall vibe.

The men's event will take place on Oct. 12, with B.C., well represented, making
up three of the 18 riders on the start list.

Kurt Sorge of Nelson, Tom van Steenbergen of Vernon, and the G.O.A.T Brandon
Semenuk of Whistler, will all be vying for a clean run and a spot on top of the
podium.

A live-stream and replays of the event are available at redbull.com.
