It previews in Bray on Saturday and promises a poetic journey about family, love and our voices Expand Expand Expand Previous Next Close slide 1 of 3 Actor and playwright Emmet Kirwan at the Mermaid Theatre in Bray. David Medcalf September 01 2022 07:00 AM * Facebook * Twitter * Email -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The easy question first – what are you, Emmet Kirwan? But it turns out not so easy at all. He fidgets and has a couple of false starts before he hits on a phrase which goes some way towards summing up his mission in life. He is, he decides, a “theatre practitioner”. He rolls the phrase around, like a wine buff thoughtfully assessing a new vintage. Theatre practitioner it is so, though he might just as well describe himself as an actor or a playwright, or a script writer – he has done the lot. This theatre practitioner – it really is a most ponderous and stiff description to pin on a humorous and spontaneous man – is certainly at home in theatre. The interview for the ‘People’ took place in the foyer of the Mermaid Arts Centre in Bray where he has become part of the furniture. He has rehearsed and performed here. He lives in the neighbourhood with his partner and their recently arrived baby. And the preview of his latest production is due to hit the stage there in a few days’ time, with the presentation of ‘Accents’ on Saturday, September 3 before it switches to a Dublin stage. btn-dark,monthly,article,app,featured,premium Premium Premium + Home Delivery Epaper Access PREMIUM ACCESS €1 per week*Billed as one payment of € 0.01 per month -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- * Unlimited access to all content on Independent.ie * Access on up to 5 devices * Interactive crosswords & puzzles * Subscriber only rewards & offers * Billed as €4/month for 12 months * Cancel anytime SubscribeSubscribe monthly,article,premium-plus Premium Premium + Home Delivery Epaper Access PREMIUM ACCESS WITH EPAPER €3.50 per week*Billed as one payment of € 0.01 per month -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- * All the benefits of Premium * ePapers: Includes Irish & Sunday Independent, Sunday World, Herald, Belfast Telegraph & 11 regional titles * ePaper archive back to Nov 2015 * Billed as €13.99 per month * Cancel anytime SubscribeSubscribe Already a subscriber?
