Goldie's ActGoldie's StoryUSDA VideosNews StoriesWhat You Can Do SUPPORT GOLDIE’S ACT TO PROTECT DOGS IN PUPPY MILLS NAMED IN REMEMBRANCE OF GOLDIE The USDA provides licenses to commercial dog breeders and is tasked with overseeing and protecting these animals. Too often, the USDA has ignored suffering of animals. To force the agency to uphold its responsibilities under the Animal Welfare Act, Congress must act. A summary of Goldie's Act - H.R.6100 (link to house.gov) introduced by Representative Cynthia Axne representing the 3rd District of Iowa, on December 1, 2021 is the lifeline dogs need. This critical bill will require the USDA to enact: * Conduct more frequent and meaningful inspections * Confiscate animals that are suffering * Impose deterring monetary penalties for violations, and * Share inspection information in a timely manner with local law enforcement. GOLDIE'S STORY Goldie was one of hundreds of dogs kept in horrific conditions by Daniel Gingerich. USDA inspectors documented Goldie’s deterioration month after month, even filming her skeletal condition. They had the authority to help her, but USDA policies failed. Shockingly, her story is not unique. Golden Retriever #142 now know as Goldie. Goldie’s Act - H.R.6100 (link to house.gov) Sponsors: Reps. Cindy Axne (D-IA), Brian Fitzpatrick (R-PA), Mike Quigley (D-IL), Vern Buchanan (R-FL), Susan Wild (D-PA), Nicole Malliotakis (R-NY) 79 Legislator Cosponsors (as of 10/18/22): View the list from house.gov Supporting Organizations: American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA), Animal Rescue League (ARL) of Iowa, Humane Society Legislative Fund (HSLF), Humane Society of the United States (HSUS) WHAT YOU CAN DO Using the form below, please take a moment to email your Legislator urging them to Cosponsor and Pass Goldie's Act.
