Microsoft 365 Security & Compliance Oops, you were just Phished and Hooked. It's okay! You're human. Let's learn from this. A real attack could have put the VA at risk! But don't worry, this was an approved Phishing Simulation. We're here to help protect the VA's network and Veterans' data. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- HOW CAN YOU HELP? If you receive an email in question, please analyze the following: [External] Subject Prefix All messages that originate from outside of the VA are marked with an [External] prefix on the subject line. Any email that appears to come from inside the VA but contains these characteristics is a spoofed message and should be reported and deleted. Sender's Email Address The message appears to be a notification from an official source but is sent from an unrelated address. Be suspicious when messages like this claim to be related to one service but the email address of the sender is something completely different. Unexpected, urgent, or demanding action required Be suspicious of unsolicited email messages that attempt to create a sense of urgency. Such as, claiming things like: “View Now!”, “Important: Please read immediately”, or “Your account will be terminated!” The attacker is attempting to take advantage of your concern and trick you in to providing confidential information. Suspicious link in the message The link in the message is not taking you to the destination you believe it is. If the email appears as suspicious email, please follow these steps: Do not open attachments Do not click on links Do not reply or forward the email Click on the Report Phishing button in Outlook DISCLAIMER: This was an approved phishing simulation conducted by the VA Office of Information Technology - Office of Information Security. As this is a requirement under the Federal Information Security Management Act (FISMA), please do not share the details of this simulation. If you have any questions about this simulation, please contact your Information Systems Security Officer. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
