Visually it’s an appealing game, with blocky characters (hence “cubemen”) and
simple, charming backgrounds. This makes it the perfect game to play while other
people are watching the TV or playing other consoles.

There’s not much reason to play the game on the TV – you’ll have very little
time to look up off the gamepad that you’re using for your map, but the TV
screen is just a mirror for the gamepad anyway. Thanks to some clunky camera
controls on the Wii U it’s best to get in loads of practice against the AI in
one-on-one duels before venturing into the multiplayer, but once you’ve got the
hang of it controlling all of your units on the map is a snap. Each of these
modes require slightly different strategies to succeed, and while the action is
manageable when there are only two sides to the conflict, in multiplayer when
there are as many as six teams, all hell breaks loose and it can be difficult to
track everything that’s going on. Once you’re done with those, you’ll want to
play some of the alternate modes, the best of which include a skirmish mode
(where you’ll also need to attack enemy towers while defending your own),
capture the flag, and a territory capture mode where you’ll need to send your
units around the map to colour the ground to your team. The standard tower
defence structure is the default way to play, and players will be scored based
on how well they perform, with trophies up for grabs on each map. There are
quite a few variations on this formula. There’s some strategy behind picking the
right mix of units, and then placing them in the optimum positions on each
level, but the basic goal is to build up as much firepower as possible and
preserve as many units as possible by filtering enemies into spaces where they
can be fired upon without much time to return fire.

These little fellows range in utility from the basic cheap peon with a
pea-shooter through to slow but powerful snipers, mortar users with long range
and explosive weaponry, and flamethrowers for massive short-range damage.
Instead of building static towers, however, in Cubemen you build little
soldier-fellows, who can move around the map and will automatically attack
anything that enters their firing range. Each player has a tower that they’ll
need to protect from waves of enemies that automatically and periodically spawn
from their enemies towers. Previously released on iOS and PC, it’s developed
into something massive over the months and years courtesy of community-created
levels, and now on the Wii U players access all that content in the definitive
version.Īs with every tower defence game, Cubemen 2 is immediately accessible
and easy to understand. In April, the developers were given a nod from Sony to
develop new titles for PlayStation 4 and PS Vita platforms, and is currently
working on a new title for the platforms.Cubemen 2 is one of the finest examples
of the tower defence genre. Pricing will be announced at a later date. We can't
wait to see how creative they are, whether in tactical multiplayer online or in

Currently, there are 4,000 user-generated levels created on other platforms,
which Wii U users will have access to, along with customisable Cubemen skins and
global leaderboards. The title features a single-player mode and the multiplayer
mode supports up to six players. Nnooo, the Australian developers behind the
abstract puzzle game EscapeVektor, is releasing Cubemen 2 on Nintendo's Wii U,
making it the first indie game to offer cross-platform multiplayer and
user-generated content on the system.

SIMPLE RECORDER SONGS

Then once the video is over, I have an attentive class ready to get
started. This avoids that whole awkward transition time right after a break.Īt
the very beginning, I like using these videos because it goes through one note
at a time and adds to what they know.Īnother great video tool when they are just
starting out is rhythm play along videos. They quietly trickle in, get their
recorders and start to play with everyone else. This gets them excited to try
and get to class as soon as possible because they know 2 minutes after the bell
(or 5 in winter because I’m in Canada) there is a play-along video that is going
to start. I usually use them for classes right after transitions like my
recorder classes that I see right after recess.

Then they would all sing “and a happy new year!” or for us in French “et une
très bonne année!”. They had specific rhythms to follow so they just had to
choose what notes they wanted to put where in between. Group 1 had to start and
end on G, group 2 had to start and end on A, and group 3 had to start and end on
B. They would each have 2 measures to write. This song lends itself perfectly to
BAG recorder composition!Īfter the students learned the lyrics, I told them they
would be getting into 3 groups to create a very small guided composition. This
year for our Christmas concert, one of my grade 3 classes played We Wish You a
Merry Christmas. This is an excellent way for them to practice performing, and
for other students to practice concert etiquette in a way that only takes a
couple of minutes. Once they have found 4 cards and have copied them it is time
to start playing their composition! I like to give them the chance to play their
song (or part of it) once centers are cleaned up for the day. How to play:
Students will go around finding recorder cards with the notes BAG on them, and
then copy what they see on their composition page.

Write the Room is another great game for your recorder students, and the best
thing is… I like to especially use this game to practice the double-tonguing
technique with tik-a-tik-a. It is also an excellent way for students to really
focus on working on their new rhythms, and recorder tone. Once students
understand this game, it is something you can do as a music center. If the
teacher played the poison rhythm, whoever repeated that would be out. Then the
teacher will say what note we are using for this round, the teacher will play a
card, and the students will repeat it on their recorders. How to play: Students
have rhythm cards on the board and the class will choose one to be the poison
rhythm card. Group Music Class BAG Games Poison Rhythms with recorders are
always a big hit! French resources can be so hard to find, so I started making
my own. I do have a French BAG recorder book on my tpt which only uses BAG songs
in French. Merrily we roll along (or Mary had a little lamb) Sometimes I like to
give them the melody and they work in groups to try and play name that tune! We
keep the songs pretty traditional and mostly use for decoding or sight reading
them. I like to use the time they are on BAG to really focus on skills like
breath control, double-tonguing, and mastering rhythms. Hot Crossed Buns is
usually the go-to when you start teaching how to play easy recorder songs, but
here are other ones I’ve done. If I have another combined class like this I
would definitely be using the G E method to start them off before transitioning
to the BAG recorder songs. They were studying So Mi songs anyways so this was
definitely a better transition for my grade 2s to start recorder at the
beginning of the year. This year I decided to try G and E after coming back from
maternity leave (plus dealing with the pandemic slide before that), on top of
that I had a grade ⅔ combined class and at first, I wasn’t sure if my grade 2s
were ready for recorder. Personally I’ve always used the BAG method and it’s
what makes the most sense for the songs and resources I use in my class. Some
teachers like using G,E first then adding the A. Here are some ways that I like
to mix it up with these three notes. And it absolutely can be! Recorder BAG
songs are a staple in starting out your students on their first wind instrument
journey! BAG recorder songs for music teachers though can get a little dull. If
you’re a new music teacher you may be wondering ‘is recorder easy to learn?’.

Today, easily the most commonly used interface formats are AES3 and its close
derivatives. There are still a couple of manufacturer-specific interface formats
around, such as Tascam's T-DIF and Roland's R-Bus, but these are mainly
restricted to those specific brands of equipment and are very unlikely to
survive another decade. Yamaha's Y1 and Y2 formats, Sony's S-DIF and DASH
interfaces and Mitsubishi's PD system, for example, are all gone. I mentioned
several manufacturers' bespoke interface formats in that article 10 years ago,
but they have all disappeared from the current scene. The first is intended
primarily for making stereo or two-channel connections, while the ADAT interface
can accommodate up to eight channels. These are the AES3 format and the ADAT
format. These days, although there are a few variations on each theme, we really
have just two main families of dedicated digital audio interface in common use.
Not surprisingly, perhaps, little has changed since then in terms of the
principles and techniques involved, but some of the interfaces we used then have
disappeared now, and the practice of connecting equipment digitally has become a
rather more familiar part of our day-to-day lives in the studio.

eats Luke ( Mark Hamill) in The Empire Strikes Back. So, if anyone is going to
