No Comments Dec 11 11 IPHONE 4 – HOW TO SAVE AND RE-OPEN DRAFT EMAILS + HOW TO FORWARD EMAILS. I’ve been a blackberry user for a long time, so when recently my blackberry phone died, I had a choice between the Blackberry Torch and the iphone 4 amongst replacement choices. For the “cool factor” I went with the iPhone despite my reservations about losing my beloved qwert, feelable keyboard. One of the first frustration I had with the iPhone was trying to figure out how to Save draft messages. It is simple but most definately not Intuitive. You hit the REPLY Button —– then once you’re done typing you have to hit CANCEL ! it will then give you the choice to DELETE or SAVE the DRAFT. ————— And that is how you save a draft email on the iPhone. Now to re-open a saved iPhone Draft Email Simply Hold the COMPOSE symbol. ————– To FORWARD emails. Hit Reply Symbol and it will give you the choice to REPLY or FORWARD. ———————– Posted in Tech Tips by Toronto Technical Support Admin. No Comments Feb 11 1 HOW TO VIEW PSD FILES FROM EXPLORER – THUMBVIEW OF PSD FILES. Every now and then you might find yourself dealing with an image file formatted in PSD ( or more likely a whole bunch of psd files). Adobe or Windows has no built-in way to “preview” these files without opening the Full Adobe Photoshop Application. Well, here is how you get those little preview thumbnails activated. This takes less than 5 minutes to set up your PSD files to show the preview thumbnails. Just follow these steps; First, You SHOULD make a backup of your system using System Restore ( TURN IT ON ! if you don’t have it on – it can be a lifesaver). While you’re at it you should backup your registry too! See Here on How to Do that ! 1. Download psicon.dll from Here 2. Unzip it anywhere in your PC (You should have 3 files. psicon.dll, psicon.dll.reg and read me.txt) 3. Copy the psicon.dll to the following path: > C:\ProgramData\Adobe\psicon.dll > Or > C:\Program Files\Common Files\AdobeShell Just a heads up, You might need to create the Shell folder, in Adobe directory. 4. After copying, execute the psicon.dll.reg file. 5. Click OK, for the info window that pops up to tell us that the registry key has been copied. Done. See, no more than 5 minutes! Go to any folder containing PSD files, and choose Thumbnails from the View menu. You should now be able to view the thumbnails for PSD files, just as you see thumbnails of images. No Comments Jan 11 20 HOW TO ENABLE OR RE-ENABLE HIBERNATE IN WINDOWS VISTA / WINDOWS 7 Thanks to a Post at http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/windows-vista/re-enable-hibernate-option-in-windows-vista/ If you’ve found that your Hibernate option is missing from Windows Vista, it might be from running the disk cleanup wizard and removing the hibernate files. Turning it back on is very simple. Type cmd into the start menu search box, and use Ctrl+Shift+Enter to open in administrator mode. You can also right-click the item in the menu and choose Run as Administrator. From the command prompt, type in the following command: > powercfg /hibernate on You’ll have to restart your computer before it will take effect. Update: Alternative Method An alternative method with more steps was suggested by Shane in the comments. If the above doesn’t fix your problem, you can use these steps. * Go to the command prompt icon in the Start menu under Accessories and right click the icon: click “Run as administrator”. * Paste: “powercfg.exe /hibernate on” and hit Enter and also paste “powercfg -h on” and hit enter just to be safe. * Open Control Panel and type in “Hibernate” in the Search. * Click “Turn hibernation on or off” * Click “Change advance power settings” * Scroll to and expand the “Sleep” option. * Select “Off” to the “Allow hybrid sleep” option. * Scroll to and expand the “Power buttons and lid” option. * Select “Hibernate” for the “Sleep button action” option. 10. Select “Hibernate” for the “Start menu power button” option. Hopefully one of these methods will solve your problem! So here are a couple of solutions. A. IF YOU DO NOT HAVE A RESTORE POINT 1. Insert your Vista CD/DVD into your drive and boot from it. (Alternately, you can hit F8 before windows loads. ) 2. Select “Repair your Computer” from the list. ( NOTE YOU HAVE TO HAVE the Administrative login for the computer) 3. Select “Command Prompt” from the recovery choices. 4. At the command prompt change your directory type the following - C: - cd\Windows - cd WinSxS 5. Type: - del pending.xml 6. Exit and reboot ** YOU MAY SEE THE Message of “configuring updates stage 3 of 3 0%” Again …. LET IT FINISH – It should take you to your login. and you’re all set. B. THESE METHODS ASSUME YOU HAVE A RESTORE POINT http://support.microsoft.com/kb/949358 METHOD 1: START WINDOWS WITH THE WINDOWS INSTALLATION DISC, AND THEN USE THE REPAIR FEATURE Note If your computer is not configured to start from a CD or from a DVD, see the documentation that was included with the computer for instruction about how to continue, or go to method 2, “Start the computer in safe mode, and then use the system restore feature.” If you continue with this method, you may have to change the computer basic input/output system BIOS settings. When you start your computer by using the Windows installation disc, you can perform system recovery options on startup. To do this, follow these steps: Note If Windows was preinstalled on the computer, you may not have the Windows installation disc. If you do not have it, go to method 2. Start Windows : 1. Insert the Windows Vista installation disc in the drive, and then restart the computer. 2. When you are prompted to start from the disc, press any key. 3. When you are prompted, configure the Language to install, Time and currency format, and Keyboard or input method options that you want, and then click Next. 4. On the next page, click Repair your computer. Select a restore point: 1. On the System Recovery Options page, click the version of the Windows operating system that you want to repair, and then click Next. 2. On the System Recovery Options page, click System Restore. 3. On the System Restore page, click Next. 4. Select a restore point at which you know that the operating system was working, and then click Next. The restore point should be a date before the first time that you experienced the problem that is described in the “Symptoms” section. To select a date, use the Choose a different restore point option, and then click Next. 5. If you are prompted to specify which disk to restore, select the hard disk on which the operating system is installed, and then click Next. 6. On the Confirm your restore point page, click Finish. 7. When the restoration process is complete, click Restart. Note To prevent this problem in the future, see the steps in the “More Information” section to manually install the update for Windows. Note For more information about how to use the System Recovery options, visit the following Microsoft Web site: For Windows Vistahttp://windowshelp.microsoft.com/Windows/en-US/Help/5c59f8c1-b0d1-4f1a-af55-74f3922f3f351033.mspx#EX (http://windowshelp.microsoft.com/Windows/en-US/Help/5c59f8c1-b0d1-4f1a-af55-74f3922f3f351033.mspx#EX) For For Windows 7http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows7/Startup-Repair-frequently-asked-questions (http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows7/Startup-Repair-frequently-asked-questions) These Web sites include options to use when the manufacturer has installed the System Recovery options on the computer. If this method worked for you, you are finished. If method 1 did not work or if you do not have the Windows installation disc, try method 2. Back to the top METHOD 2: START THE COMPUTER IN SAFE MODE, AND THEN USE THE SYSTEM RESTORE FEATURE Starting your computer in safe mode prevents several software programs and drivers from starting. This can help troubleshoot the system problem. To start your computer in safe mode and use the System Restore feature, follow these steps. Start in safe mode: 1. Make sure that there are no floppy disks, CDs, or DVDs in the computer, and then start the computer. 2. Use one of the following procedures, as appropriate for your situation: * If a single operating system is installed, press and hold the F8 key as the computer starts. You must press F8 before the Windows logo appears. If the Windows logo appears, turn off the computer and then restart it. * If more than one operating system is installed, use the arrow keys to highlight the operating system that you want to start in safe mode, and then press F8. 3. On the Advanced Boot Options screen, use the arrow keys to select the safe mode option that you want, and then press ENTER. Any of the safe mode options will work. Use the System Restore feature: 1. Click Start, type system restore in the Start Search box or Search programs and files, and then click System Restore under the Programs section. Collapse this imageExpand this image If you are prompted for an administrator password or for a confirmation, type the password, or click Continue. 2. On the System Restore page, click Next. 3. Select a restore point at which you know that the operating system was working, and then click Next. The restore point should be a date before the first time that you experienced the problem that is described in the “Symptoms” section. To select a date, use the Choose a different restore point option, and then click Next. 4. If you are prompted to specify the disk to restore, select the hard disk on which the operating system is installed, and then click Next. 5. On the Confirm your restore point page, click Finish. 6. When the restoration process is complete, click Restart. And that should be it. I have been shopping online and I have found Windows 7 and Windows 7 Upgrade. When I think of an upgrade, I think of it as something to improve something that I already have. Is this the case with Windows 7 Upgrade? Is it an improvement on Windows 7? If so, why hasn’t the upgrade been integrated with the Windows 7 software? This problem is likely because you have your Windows Firewall Service Stopped or Disabled. This could be because you’re using Norton, McAfee Or some other Internet security Application that uses its own firewall software instead of the Windows built-in firewall. To fix the problem, just enable the Windows Firewall, Make sure it is running and Then share your printer and Voila it should work. Once the printer is shared successfully, Just Stop the Firewall Service and Disable it if you wish. The quickest way to Confirm if your Windows Firewall is Running or not is to do the following: 1. Go to START –> RUN –> and type “services.msc” Then hit ENTER or OK ( If you don’t See RUN – Hold the Windows Key on your keyboard, the one next to the ALT key on the Left, and the letter R at the same time ) This will bring up the Run dialog box. 2. Once the Services List comes up Scroll Down to find WINDOWS FIREWALL. and double click on it. 3. This will bring up the Firewall Services Properties. Make the appropriate change If the service is either Disabled or Stopped. You have to Enable the service First, then you can Start it. Now once you have the Service Running, Just share your printer as normal. And just go back to the Service properties screen and simply Disable/Stop the service if you’d like.
