On October 24th, Sport BC and Engage Sport North celebrated local sport volunteers from Prince George. Katie was one among eleven dedicated volunteers honoured with the BC Community Sports Heroes Award at Engage Sport North's 30th anniversary celebration. Presenters acknowledged her work as founder of the Aurora Wolves, which provides competitive pathways for athletes from across Northern BC; she co-founded the 1697s Rugby Club in 2019 to develop local athletes and dedicates time to the community teaching rugby at elementary and secondary schools; she has coached rugby at College Heights Secondary since 2021 and was a coach for the 2024 Zone 8 BC Summer Games girls rugby team in Maple Ridge. She has traveled across Northern BC to ID athletes and make sure the whole region has an opportunity for representation.
