This year, CWI is celebrating! 75 Years ago, the institute opened its doors. It
has a long history in cutting edge research, as the birthplace of the open
Internet in Europe, the Dijkstra shortest path algorithm, Python and much more.

RESEARCH GROUPS

Research within CWI is organized in 15 research groups. We conduct pioneering
research in mathematics and computer science, generate new knowledge and convey
it to industry and society.





RESEARCH THEMES

CWI conducts pioneering research in mathematics and computer science. Our
research is focused on four areas: algorithms, data and intelligent systems,
cryptography and security, and quantum computing.



CWI Synergy

CWI serves as the Dutch national research institute for mathematics and computer
science. By creating a synergy between those fields, we pursue fundamental and
long-term innovation.

THE QUANTUM APPLICATION LAB WILL BUILD A BRIDGE BETWEEN SCIENCE AND APPLICATIONS
