Super fit 83-year-old woman smashes THIRD grueling Tough Mudder race

This octogenarian has just completed her THIRD Tough Mudder, one of the most
grueling endurance events in the world.

Mildred Wilson, 83, is the oldest
person ever to complete the brutal course.

Tough Mudder is an endurance
race filled with punishing obstacles such as a giant ice bath, a 60-foot watery
trench under a steel fence, a dash through 10,000 volts of electricity and a
12-foot wooden ladder with giant rungs named the 'Ladder to
Hell'.

Mildred, a former vending machine company worker from Sikeston,
Missouri, USA, said: “I knew last year I would do another as long as my health
was good.

“It really didn’t require a decision. Last year when asked if I
would do another, my answer was ‘at my age I don’t plan that far ahead but if I
am still here and able I definitely will'.

“I didn’t really know I was the
oldest to do a Tough Mudder until this year. It’s kind of an honor and everyone
makes me feel special.”

On May 1, Mildred trudged through mud and obstacle
courses for two and a half hours to complete her third race.

Dubbed “Muddy
Mildred,” Mildred completed her first obstacle course shortly after her 80th
birthday in 2019 after her son Danny, 48 and an active Tough Mudder, asked her
if she wanted to do a local one.

While the run was paused in 2020 due to
COVID-19, Mildred conquered the course for the second time when it returned on
May 9, 2021.

Though she’s completed two other runs in the past, Mildred
said this one was harder.

Though she never plans that far ahead,
Mildred hopes to complete another course next year.

She said: “Definitely
yes I want to and to do another Tough Mudder next year if God continues to bless
me with good health.”

*Video filmed in 2021.

UK artist fools millions with hyper-realistic, provocative cakes

A young artist has fooled millions on TikTok with her hyper-realistic,
provocative cakes of fake raw meat and even a SLUG.

Tatum Parden, an
Artist and Fine Art student at Central Saint Martins University in London, began
making realistic cakes after being inspired by "weird" artwork with
unconventional materials.

Twenty-year-old Tatum filmed herself making a
realistic pigeon cake which she ran over with a car.

After posting the
video to Instagram, Tatum realised she loved the combination of realism with the
shocked response from viewers.

Tatum has always been into sculpture and
when she needed a new project, she landed on the idea of making a realistic raw
chicken leg out of cake.

Her raw chicken cake video suddenly went viral,
with people equally impressed and entirely grossed out by her talent.

She
said: “To be honest, I’m not very good at making actual food and the cakes are
not very tasty.

“I just love performance art and the ‘shock factor’ that
it brings.”

Tatum posted her cake creations online because she wanted to
get a reaction, whatever it was.

She emphasised the importance of
engaging with commenters to discuss the way they felt and their
opinions.

“Whether someone feels joy towards my art because they like
‘weird’ or if they hate it and think it’s horrible, I like that people
communicate their reactions with me.”

Hotel owner left “shocked” after Uber Eats driver walks off with his takeaway

A hotel owner said he was left “shocked” after an Uber Eats delivery driver
walked off with his £40 Chinese takeaway – while claiming he'd left it by his
front door.

Jon Cawdron, 42, said he would not have got a refund if he
hadn’t captured the incident on CCTV and warned more people to be wary of the
nasty trick.

In the video, the driver - identified as a man called
“Gheorghe” - approaches the front door of Jon’s guest house, The Sands Hotel, on
Blackpool promenade, Lancs.

He then takes a picture of the package by the
property to confirm that it’s been delivered, but just seconds later, he calmly
scoops it up and takes it back to his car.

Jon said when his food didn’t
materialise, he contacted Uber Eats to demand a refund, but they told him that
the driver’s photo proved he had received it.

And it was only when he
produced CCTV evidence of the driver taking the food away that Uber Eats agreed
to reimburse him with £39.44 for his family dinner.

Jon, who also works as
a freelance photographer, said he was particularly concerned that other people
were falling foul to the trick up and down the country.

He said:
“Obviously, if I hadn’t got the CCTV footage, then I would be stuck, and I
wouldn’t have got my money back or anything.

“But what about the other
houses that don’t have cameras? I’m more concerned about who else this has been
happening to.”

Jon said the alleged theft took place on Sunday evening, at
around 6:20 pm, after he’d ordered the food from Lucky House Chinese Restaurant,
in Blackpool.

He said: “Basically, I ordered from Uber Eats, and I was sat
waiting. It seemed to be taking a while, so I phoned up the takeaway to find out
what happened.

“They turned round and said it got delivered a while ago,
and when I looked on the Uber Eats app, it showed a photo of it being
delivered.”

Jon said the restaurant owners told him to contact Uber Eats
to let them know he hadn't recieved his food.

But the company later
informed him that the image of the takeaway next to his door was proof that it
had been delivered, and said he therefore could not claim a refund.

He
explained: “Uber said I definitely received it because there is a photo showing
that I received it, and I wouldn’t be given a refund.”

Jon then decided
to look through his CCTV, believing that a guest at the hotel may have taken the
food parcel.

But he was shocked to see that the delivery driver was in
fact behind the alleged theft.

You won't be-leaf it! These cuban bartenders have been making cocktails from
native plants
Cuban bartenders Manuel Alejandro Valdés and Dagoberto Jesús Morejón are
passionate about cocktails.

But due to a shortage of syrups or liquor on the Caribbean island, the pair
decided to prepare drinks made from native plants.

Malva de caballo, Orozuz de la Tierra, Flor de Majagua (Hibiscus elatus) or Abre
Caminos (Koanophyllon villosum) -- a species associated with Santeria rituals --
are some of the ingredients they use for their recipes at The Bartenders
Association bar in Havana.

"Cuba at the moment is like a gold mine with lots of untapped resources," says
Morejón. "We are working with the land on our project. In another country, we
might just be two more bartenders."

Then they launched the project a year ago with the Association of Bartenders of
the island and have created a business to distribute syrups made from their
plants.

Together with specialists from the Botanical Association of Cuba they identified
about 50 plants with the potential to be used in their drinks.

At first, they planted them in pots and flowerbeds at their homes or collected
them from the surrounding area. Now they cultivate the species they need on a
farm outside of Havana.

Two of their floral creations, "Exotic Island" and "Autóctono" have won
recognition and prizes in international competitions.

Delicious, nutritious and underrated: top Dubai chef on why beetroot is best
As people everywhere are following World Heath Organization advice to stay at
home to help battle the spread of COVID-19, many are using this extra time to
get creative in the kitchen.

Looking for inspiration for new recipes and ingredients, Euronews spoke to Chef
Stinnissen, who runs one of Dubai’s most well-known restaurants – Boca.

“One of my favourite vegetables is beetroot, because I grew up with that and I
just loved the freshness, that earthy flavour, how pure it is, the colour.

Chef Stinissen applies cooking techniques normally used on beef to beetroot.
Braising the beetroot brings out some unique flavours from the vegetable and it
is how his popular ‘MeatRoot’ dish garnered its name.

Vegetables such as beetroot have not grown naturally in the desert region
before. Growing beetroot in extreme heat has brought different characteristics
to the vegetable compared to their European counterparts.

“It's very nutritious as well,” adds Stinissen. “We smoke it and we make a
puree. We'll make a powder just to highlight how beautiful a vegetable it can
be.”

Stay home, learn to cook

Across the globe, people are sharpening their culinary skills with recipes and
online tutorials but Stinnissen says that no one recipe will come out the same:

How one chef cuts a carrot may vary from the next chef. Similarly, the choice of
ingredients for a recipe may change according to a chef's palate and ethos.

Whether it's beef from Brazil, or coffee from Kenya, transporting these food
items internationally causes high levels of emissions, so produce with a small
carbon footprint is becoming increasingly popular as it has less impact on
global warming.

In Boca, patrons can enjoy a menu that is made from almost 90% of local seafood
and vegetables.

Many types of food that are not native to the Emirates are now sustainably grown
locally. Yazen Al Kodmani, an Operations Manager for a local farm, explains:
"The idea is you are trying to find what is seasonally available. What I can
cook with? If you are doing that you end up eating fresh, you end up eating more
nutritious food, and you end up reducing your carbon footprint as the food
you’re eating hasn’t travelled thousands of kilometres.”

Dynamic new destination Dubai Future District is a place that mixes business
with pleasure
A new business hub is forming in the heart of Dubai — but trade isn’t the only
reason to visit Dubai Future District. It’s an epicentre of fine dining, with
world-class restaurants, five-star rooftop pools and cultural landmarks,
including the unmissable new Museum of the Future.

Dubai is always evolving. Bold and ambitious, it’s an emirate focused on the
future and its newest neighbourhood is named accordingly. Dubai Future District
incorporates Dubai International Finance Centre (DIFC), Dubai World Trade Centre
and Emirates Towers District. The grouping defines Dubai’s incentivised business
centres – but this dynamic new destination is one that knows how to mix business
with pleasure.

Fun and Fine Dining in Dubai

With the opening of Gate Avenue mall, retail options are rising in Dubai Future
District. The mall contains local designer stores, a kids’ play area, co-working
spaces and South Market, a food hall with fashionable outlets, including Cereal
Killer Café, which serves breakfast for lunch and dinner.

For business dining that ascends the ordinary, Dubai Future District boasts a
concentration of exceptional restaurants. There are world-famous outlets with
reservation waiting lists that need little introduction, including Zuma Dubai ,
LPM Dubai and Amazonico Dubai .

Then there are homegrown concepts that form an essential foodie to-do list when
in the emirate. Mediterranean Boca is applauded for its efforts in sourcing
produce from local fishermen and farmers. The tapas is seasoned with praise.

An oasis in this modern concrete business quarter, Gaia is a pretty Greek
taverna that attracts royal patrons. The menu, crafted by charismatic Chef Izu
Ani, is full of personality, transporting guests to holiday idylls with dishes
such as mouth-watering watermelon and feta salad, scattered with almonds and
wisps of fragrant basil and mint. The fish of the day is simply grilled in
charcoal ovens and then drizzled with lemon oil.

Trèsind – a portmanteau of the French ‘very’ and ‘Indian’ – offers three
experiences in the neighbourhood. Carnival by Trèsind puts the fun into fine
dining, with blown soap bubbles part of the welcome ceremony and street food
carts tucked in corners. Trèsind is a regal blue dining room serving classic
Indian cuisine and Trèsind Studio is an exclusive dining room where Head Chef
Himanshu Saini serves impeccable Michelin-standard tasting menus that some would
argue are the finest in the city.

Rich in Art and Culture

DIFC’s Gate Village is home to renowned auction houses, including Dubai’s own
Christie’s , and boutique galleries, such as Opera , specialising in affordable
contemporary art with its ever-changing displays an ongoing attraction for avid
window shoppers.

More temporary displays will soon appear in Summer Garden, the lofty,
tree-filled atrium of new sculpted office tower, ICD Brookfield Place .

Containing seven floors of column-free exhibition and event space dedicated to
future technologies and possibilities, the newest landmark to shape the skyline
is the Museum of the Future . The first – opened in 1979 – was Dubai World Trade
Centre’s Sheikh Rashid Tower. You’ll find it not only in Dubai Future District
but also on AED100 notes. Put it all into perspective from Dubai Frame . Just 10
minutes away, it offers views of both New and Old Dubai.

Business Travel for Pleasure

Four Seasons DIFC is one of the area’s five-star hotels taking business travel
to new heights. Sleep well and wake up with the peacocks, often seen strolling
around the neighbourhood at dawn. Then start the new day with a swim. In Dubai,
you’re never too far away from a glamourous rooftop pool and the one at the Four
Seasons is an Instagram star thanks to its unusual glass sides.

France's famous monument, Mont-Saint-Michel is cut off from the world
In the space of a few hours, France's famous tourist monument, Mont-Saint-Michel
temporarily became an island amid high tides.

The rare phenomenon happens when the water surrounding the UNESCO World Heritage
Site rises as fast as it recedes.

Located off the Normandy coast, the mount, topped by its world-renowned
Benedictine abbey traditionally welcomes up to two million visitors a year.

But on this occasion, tourists could only view it from a partially submerged
road.
