You want your child to have a well-rounded education, with lots of outdoor time and an emphasis on mindfulness and connecting with the world around them. You want them to love to learn and know that a Montessori school can help instill that. But so many schools in the McLean, Virginia, area don’t share your philosophy. They keep kids cloistered — in classrooms segregated by age, in learning plans that aren’t flexible for each child’s style, and in an environment that doesn’t feel caring or fun. Why should you settle for less than the best? The years from toddler to kindergarten are the most important for their development. You can’t waste them in a private school that doesn’t understand your child and doesn’t encourage their unique learning style. Your child shouldn’t have to struggle because a school can’t adapt to them. A PRIVATE SCHOOL THAT CARES For over 3 decades, Brooksfield helps parents and children fulfill their full potential. Through close bonds between students, outdoor learning and careful student tracking, we set our students up for a lifetime of success. To build those environments, we focus on 1-on-1 interactions tailored to the student’s learning style through the Montessori Method. Our students learn self-direction, confidence, teamwork, mindfulness, and valuable life skills. How can you learn more about the Brooksfield difference? 1. Schedule a tour. See our campus and the environment we’ve built to foster emotional and intellectual growth in our students. 2. Bring your child for a visit. We love meeting new children and showing them how great school can be. 3. Attend our spring events. You can ease into the Brooksfield experience by socializing with the Brooksfield family. 4. Send your child to our summer camp. Summer is a great time to try out full-time child care at a private school! Brooksfield is proud to be a member of the American Montessori Society, Handwriting Without Tears, Jane Goodall’s Roots & Shoots, and NoVA Outside. We honor each child for who they are and who they can become. Together, we will teach your child a love of learning and discovery that inspires them to blossom and flourish. I love Brooksfield. The school offered a loving and fulfilling environment for both my boys. We met some of our closest friends at Brooksfield, and we still take advantage of its fantastically integrated curriculum during its summer camp programs. Komal B., Brooksfield parent THE MONTESSORI SCHOOL PATH TO SUCCESS Through our unique curriculum of group work across age cohorts, independent learning, and outdoor exploration, our students grow in leaps and bounds. Instead of being bored by a traditional school environment, our students are more curious. They want to explore the world around them and take their lessons from the classroom home. Instead of viewing school as a formal environment with rigid rules, they see school as more of a family setting that they can relate to. They get what they want most at these critical ages: the chance to do things on their own, like organic gardening. Instead of working alone on problems, they collaborate with students younger and older than them, giving them the opportunity to learn socialization skills from older children and become leaders to younger children. Overall, the Montessori Method produces students who are more verbal, more outgoing and more curious than their traditional school counterparts. The staff and teachers at Brooksfield have been truly wonderful. They recognize that every child is unique, with their own strengths and areas for growth. -Carrie L., Brooksfield parent Schedule a Tour OUR PROGRAMS TODDLER PROGRAM Our toddler care program focuses on care: * Self-care through establishing a solid foundation of routine * Care for the environment through mindfulness and outdoor learning * Care for others through kindness and respect Our classroom areas focus on practical life skills, sensory training, and motor skills, as well as language, math, classification, observation, prediction, and nutrition. But the most important aspect of our toddler program is the emotional support we foster. Brooksfield students feel confident in taking risks, free-thinking, and sharing their emotions with one another. The toddler program runs either 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 Noon or 9:00 a.m. to 3 p.m., with a morning extended day option that begins at 7:30 a.m. and an extended day option available 3:00 to 5:55 p.m. Learn More PRIMARY PROGRAM Our primary program focuses on CCIO: Confidence, Concentration, Independence and Order. To instill confidence, we encourage students to care for and nurture one another and give them the space to learn things for themselves. With the Montessori Method of mixed-age cohorts, the older students help the younger ones learn skills in a way that feels more natural than dictations from the teacher. Of course, this is all monitored by one of our expert teachers. To build concentration, we keep students focused on the activity they’ve chosen to engage in. Our mindfulness sessions teach them to center themselves and focus on what’s now in front of them. And our hands-on activities demand more concentration from children in this age range. For independence, we employ the Montessori Method’s freedom of choice, which allows students to focus on activities that they find most enriching, and then guiding those activities toward learning and skills that they can generalize. Our students feel assured in making decisions for themselves and love learning by the end of our program as much as they did Day 1. Although a Montessori school allows for freedom of choice, it’s also a structured environment. Complete chaos wouldn’t actually provide freedom. The child must feel safe and secure with obvious cause-and-effect relationships that they can learn. Order is critical to our students’ success. Our Primary Program hours are: * 9:00 a.m. - Noon (3 year olds only) * 9:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. * 7:30 a.m. - 5:55 p.m. Learn More KINDERGARTEN PROGRAM The kindergarten program is a reward for our hard-working students. They’ve spent years following the lead of older students, and now it’s their turn to reinforce those valuable life skills by modeling it for students younger than them. When the young kids look up to the kindergarteners, it instills confidence in their life skills and teaches them to take on leadership roles when it’s appropriate. Kindergarteners also undertake special units of study in Kindergarten Focus Time. They do deeper dives into language, math and writing than their younger cohorts, as well as science, geography, history, art and yoga. We also bring in specialists to teach kindergarteners physical education, Spanish, computers, music and yoga. Our Kindergarten Program hours are: * 9:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. * 7:30 a.m. - 5:55 p.m. Learn More DRAGONFLY CLUB Our before and after school care allows parents to better line their schedules up with their children’s. We provide a home-like setting with fun activities and social play. For parents of elementary students, Dragonfly Club provides a lower-stress environment for their kids to explore. We also have time set aside for homework. For Brooksfield students, our Dragonfly schedule is: Monday through Friday * 7:30 am - 8:45 am * 7:30 am - 5:55 pm For students enrolled in Chesterbrook, Franklin Sherman, Haycock, Lemon Road and Kent Gardens Elementary Schools. It’s a fun atmosphere that educates students in a family atmosphere. From ages 3-10 and early June to early August, we have age-appropriate activities. The younger cohort has swimming lessons and Teddy Tennis throughout the camp. We build teamwork, self-esteem and communication skills through these fun activities. The 5-year-olds also go on field trips! The campers 6 through 10 take off-campus adventures, which have included hiking, archery, canoeing, lake swimming, farm visits, nature programs, horseback riding and horsemanship, ropes courses, indoor rock climbing, and so more. Learn More OUTDOOR EDUCATION At Brooksfield, we understand the importance of the outdoors to a child’s development. Engaging with nature requires the complete engagement of a child’s developing senses. And outdoor education has been shown to improve behavior, decrease stress and boost grades. That’s why Brooksfield has invested in a groundbreaking outdoor education experience for our students. Under the guidance of a Montessori instructor, they can explore the natural world and develop a greater awareness of the world around them. This unique focus on integrating Montessori principles with outdoor education sets Brooksfield apart from other schools in the McLean area. We aim to continue innovating and giving our students the best school experience possible. Learn More Schedule a Tour OUR AFFILIATIONS We would love to share the Brooksfield experience with you.
