STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. -- A new rule published by the Social Security
Administration will make more Americans eligible for Supplemental Security
Income (SSI) and potentially increase payments for those already receiving it.
The new rule, which takes effect Sept. 30, expands the definition of a public
assistance household to include those receiving Supplemental Nutrition
Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits and households where some, but not all,
members receive some form of public assistance.
