REGISTRY OF RESEARCH DATA REPOSITORIES - RE3DATA.ORG

A SEARCHABLE ONLINE DIRECTORY OF RESEARCH DATA REPOSITORIES.

Product FeaturesApplicable DisciplinesTerms & Conditions

The Registry of Research Data Repositories (re3data.org) is a global registry,
with more than 2,400 detailed data repository records, and is widely
acknowledged as a tool for the identification of suitable repositories for
research data.

Long-term data preservation and the attendant archive requirements should be
considered at an early stage of the research lifecycle, ideally as part of the
development of your Data Management Plan.

Maximise data discovery and impact by meeting the FAIR data guiding principles
and make your data Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, and Reusable.

Some funders stipulate preferred long-term data archives, but when your funder
or publisher is not prescriptive there are hundreds of options to choose from.

The re3data.org registry has an easy-to-use interface which incorporates search
filters across a wide range of research requirements, for example, by subject
(research discipline), data access restrictions, and metadata standards, making
it easier to identify a suitable long-term home for your data.

With the wide ranging options it is important to first consider your own
specific data requirements.

The Digital Curation Centre (DCC) have produced a helpful guide ‘Where to keep
research data: DCC checklist for evaluating data repositories’

You can also contact the University of Edinburgh Research Data Support service
for further advice regarding long-term data storage options.
