ABOUT

The History of Lunar Lodge

Built in 1962, the Lunar Lodge was the first home in Flagstaff for the Shoemaker
family. Eugene and Carolyn Shoemaker raised their family in our city while
simultaneously making history in the world of astrogeology.  Due to his
dedication and discoveries in the world of astronomy, Eugene is the first and
only man to have ever been given a lunar burial.  His and his wife's love for
the stars and things beyond this world can be felt and experienced within the
walls of Lunar Lodge. 
Come experience the dark sky city of Flagstaff, Arizona and fall in love with
what the Shoemaker family was so passionate about.  Whether you're longing
for memories to be made with family and friends or a stargazing getaway in the
backyard filled with pines and the sounds of nature, we invite you to call the
Lunar Lodge your Flagstaff home away from home.



Between its rich history, stunning design, and amazing location, Lunar Lodge has
achieved a perfect balance blending a vacation experience with just the right
