LEARN RESEARCH & ARGUMENTATIVE WRITING (GRADES 5-6)

1 hr

Become a Young Ocean Scholar: Using Ocean Conservation to learn Research &
Argumentative Writing (5th to 6th Grade)

The air we breathe, the food we eat, the water we drink: all of it is connected
to our oceans, and those oceans are changing. In this 1 hour webinar, we will
briefly discuss what will be covered in class. Students will learn about three
types of changes that are happening in our oceans: plastic pollution,
overfishing, and sea-level rise.

While students analyze these important concepts, they will practice key reading,
writing, discussion, and grammar skills needed to write a letter to a legislator
explaining one of the problems facing our oceans and coastal communities and
what should be done about it.

rapport with them. He will sometimes use rewards for younger kids and have some
fun conversations. Sometimes he uses props like comics, movies, animals, Marvel,
