Traveling to the United States with a B-2 Tourist Visa or Travel Authorization
(ESTA)
All foreign nationals intending to visit the United States must possess a valid
visa or an approved Electronic System for Travel Authorization (ESTA), unless
they are green card holders. Visas are issued by U.S. embassies, while ESTAs are
obtained through an online application process. The ESTA platform is part of the
U.S. Visa Waiver Program, and it is mandatory for travelers entering the United
States by air or sea to secure ESTA approval prior to departure.

Requirements for Applying for an ESTA
Eligibility for the Visa Waiver Program (VWP) is limited to citizens from 41
designated countries. To obtain travel authorization under the VWP, applicants
must complete an ESTA application. Additionally, a biometric passport with a
microchip and the corresponding symbol on its cover is required. The VWP permits
stays of up to 90 days for purposes such as tourism, business, transit,
healthcare, or participation in non-accredited study programs.
It is advisable to apply for ESTA before booking any travel arrangements, as a
full visa may be required. Once approved, the ESTA can be updated with final
itinerary details before departure.
