RU ENG A journey to discover, how the peopleS of the Amazon live today YANOMAMI WAORANI ASHANINKA TIKUNA AMAZONAS Pirahã Exhibition Tribes Project Partners Exhibition: Winter 2018 – Summer 2019 Ceremonial earring. Yanomami Curare poisoned darts Ceremonial urn for ashes. Yanomami WINTER 2018 AMAZONAS We set forth on a journey to the tribes of the Amazon to show you life in a different perspective: how a modern world transforms the household of indigenous peoples. In the XV century the household of Amazonas indians started to change drastically: first, gold diggers arrived in the virgin selva, then they were replaced by rubber and rare minerals extractors. Today selva suffers from extraction of petroleum, poaching and agrobusiness lobby. The tribes endured extermination, the indians were enslaved, they died in thousands from previously unknown diseases. However, some peoples survived and stayed on their native land. We decided that their story deserves to be told. Slash-and-burn farming. Ashaninka Peru AMAZONAS is a multimedia exhibition. We work on photostories, short video and audio recordings, which can show the modern household of the tribes and those traditions that they kept in full. We don’t stop on staged photography in national costumes: we also document modern life of the communities as it is, with schools, houses made of galvanized metal and radio points. We want to show how amazonian cultures change under the pressure of time and what reactions happen as a result of the collision. Waorani indians Ecuador Ashaninka indian crosses Haniriani fall Peru We visited villages of the Yanomami, the most traditional and remote tribe of the Orinoko upper reaches. We made it to the Vaorani community, who only 5 years ago kidnapped two girls from another avoidant clan as a result of a clan revenge. In eastern Peru we visited Ashaninka communities of the Aravac group, who communicate with the western civilization since the times of conquistadors. In the south of Colombia we reached the Tikuna village, one of the most modern and populous tribes on the shores of Amazonas. We were fortunate to meet the Pirahã tribe in Brazil - it is their language that successfully became the apple of discord in the contemporary linguistics theory. In the exhibition photos, video and audio recordings, maps, household items and detailed descriptions of tribal life will be included. We will invite anthropologists and linguists to give lectures on presented tribes. The team “AMAZONAS is my yearning to show that life on our planet is incredible and diverse. It is my attempt to transform the mindset with images, stories and issues which are very similar to ours but exist in some parallel universe, of which we know nothing” Alexander Fedorov Photojournalist for National Geographic Russia, Discovery Russia, Men’s Health, Vokrug Sveta “How do those who only 70 years ago haven’t seen a white man feel today? How do those who survived the Amazon rubber boom feel? Civil wars? Technological revolution? It is a story of a shock transformation - the most interesting anthropological process in the world” Elena Srapyan Multimedia documentary projects producer, journalist for National Geographic Russia, CurrentTime, Mediazona Contact us PARTNERS We are interested in any forms of collaboration with museums, exhibition halls, galleries, public spaces, auditoriums and printing houses.
