   A tireless pursuit of the bounty of seasonal ingredients, a new home rich in
   culture and community and a passion for Italian culinary traditions led Chef
   McNee to Santa Barbara and the opening of Convivo. McNee describes the
   cooking at Convivo as ‘nomad Italian’, sourcing inspiration from around the
   globe, melding other cultures’ cooking with coastal Italian cuisine. The menu
   is subject to the seasonality and the hyper local availability of ingredients
   from Santa Barbara County. Simple ingredients shine in the hands of Chef
   McNee.
   
   A native of Minnesota, Peter moved to California after receiving a degree in
   Economics from Gustavus Adolphus College. He attended the California Culinary
   Academy in 1999 while working at Jeremiah Tower’s famed STARS restaurant,
   building relationships with local farmers. This farm-to-table approach has
   remained a constant throughout his career. Upon graduation, he headed to wine
   country where McNee continued his culinary education at Ristorante TraVigne
   in the Napa Valley. Restless with his stateside education, Peter embarked on
   a yearlong culinary pilgrimage to Italy. He worked at Ristorante Campagnola
   in Salo, Italy and for Alain Ducasse trained and Tuscan born Chef Matteo
   Temperini at Hotel Bel Soggiorno in San Gimignano, Italy. While Chef McNee
   was living with his host families, cooking and traveling throughout the
   country, he fell in love with Italian food and culture.
   
   Returning to the Bay Area, he was drawn to iconic restaurateur Larry Mindel,
   the founder of Il Fornaio restaurants, and their shared passion for Italy. As
   Executive Chef at Mindel’s Sausalito restaurant, Poggio, a lasting friendship
   and partnership formed. In 2009 Chef McNee took top honors at San Francisco’s
   Cochon 555 competition. At Poggio, he earned multiple 3-star reviews from the
   San Francisco Chronicle and placement within the coveted “Top 100 Restaurants
   in the Bay Area” rankings every year since 2008. Michael Bauer, food critic
   to the San Francisco Chronicle writes of Chef McNee, "you can practically
   taste the chef's passion in each and every bite.”
   
   Peter McNee moved his family to Santa Barbara in 2016, launching Convivo with
   business partner Larry Mindel. “Santa Barbara’s bounty of ingredients rivals
   that of the Bay Area. It’s a special place, rich with wonderful artists,
   small independent farmers, ranchers, fisherman and vintners. This community
   of artisans is a big reason my wife and I wanted to live in Santa Barbara and
   raise our young son here."

 * RICH HOLLOWELL
   
   GENERAL MANAGER
   
   Rich Hollowell brings a unique set of professional experience and local
   knowledge to the General Manager role at Convivo. Prior to joining the team,
   Hollowell was the Food and Beverage Operations Manager for the Hotel
   Californian. His luxury resort experience includes General Manager roles at
   the Ritz-Carlton Bacara and the Chumash Casino Resort in the Santa Ynez
   Valley. He has also led several local restaurants including his role as Food
   and Beverage Director at the Olio e Limone group of restaurants. 
   
   Hollowell has been a Santa Barbara area resident since his youth and is a
   graduate of Dos Pueblos High School in Goleta. His deep knowledge of the
   local hospitality landscape will be a great complement to Chef McNee’s unique
   spin on Italian food that’s served at Convivo, whose name means ‘to come
   together’ and is the root word for the Latin term for ‘Feast.’ Hollowell’s
   responsibilities will include leading the entire service staff in providing a
   warm, welcoming experience to locals and visitors alike. He is also a
   passionate beverage professional and brings a new spirit to Convivo's wine
   and bar programs.

 * AMY SVENDBERG
   
   DIRECTOR OF OPERATIONS
   
   Growing up in culture rich Chicago, IL, surrounded by culinary enthusiasts,
   it is no surprise that Amy Svendberg ended up leading a life in restaurants.
   Amy not only has a zest for food and wine, but also has experience in
   top-rated eateries around the world.
   
   After earning a bachelor’s degree in French Business and Translation from
   Northern Illinois University, Amy headed straight for Paris, where her true
   passion for food and hospitality came to life. After five years in the lively
   restaurant world of Paris, Amy returned home to Chicago, continuing her
   career in food and hospitality, including four years as the general manager
   at Kimpton Group’s Atwood Café.
   
   In 2007, Amy made her move to San Francisco, where she started at the famed
   Grand Café and soon crossed paths with Larry Mindel. “I was originally drawn
   to work for Larry because of his great reputation in the restaurant industry,
   and the outstanding talent in their kitchens,” says Amy. She became managing
   partner of Poggio in January of 2008, and poured herself wholeheartedly into
   every aspect of the dining experience from greeting guests at the door, to
   serving plates, to regularly collecting feedback from servers on how to offer
   the best possible environment for guests. In 2012, Amy added another role to
   her successful career, that of managing partner overseeing the opening and
   operations of Copita Tequileria y Comida.
   
   Amy led the successful opening of Convivo at the newly remodeled Santa
   Barbara Inn in 2016. In addition to serving breakfast, lunch and dinner 7
   days a week, Convivo also provides catering and room service for the AAA Four
   Diamond hotel. Those at the Four Diamond level, just 6.3 percent of AAA
   inspected & approved hotels, must be "refined and stylish with upscale
   physical attributes, extensive amenities and a high degree of hospitality,
   service and attention to detail."
   
   Overseeing three successful restaurants 300 miles apart is no easy feat but
   Amy does find time to climb some of North America's highest peaks and spend
   quality time with family and friends.

 * LARRY MINDEL
   
   PROPRIETOR
   
   Larry Mindel has been at the forefront of the dining industry for over 40
   years. Deeply influenced by the culinary traditions of Italy, his
   trailblazing restaurants have influenced California’s dining zeitgeist.
   
   Millions of people across the country have enjoyed visiting Larry’s
   restaurants, though many are likely to recognize the establishments before
   they recognize the man. Larry’s career took root in San Francisco with his
   purchase of venerable Caswell Coffee Company (founded, 1829) for 1 million
   dollars in 1963. He was 26 years old and had $36.00 in the bank. Emboldened
   by youthful naiveté, he overestimated his power of negotiating! With passion
   and hard work, Caswell doubled in size for 3 years. In the 4th year, he took
   a leap of faith and became the exclusive buyer of Kona coffee from Hawaii.
   They locked in a set price and branded it as a premium product, “Kona
   Coffee”. Subsequently, Caswell’s success attracted a bidding war between
   larger Midwestern coffee companies anxious to gain a foothold in the rapidly
   growing West Coast market.
   
   Following the sale of Caswell, Larry co-founded Spectrum Foods with the
   purchase of Chianti restaurant in Los Angeles. He and his business partner
   transformed Chianti from a failing trattoria into a restaurant with the most
   coveted seats in Los Angeles. Under Larry's direction, Spectrum created 14
   trend setting restaurants in California. These included Ciao, with one of the
   nation’s first exhibition pasta-making stations, and Prego featuring a
   wood-fired pizza oven in the dining room. Both innovations were the result of
   spatial problem solving. In 1984, Saga Corporation acquired Spectrum Foods
   and Larry served as President of the Saga Restaurant Group, overseeing more
   than 200 restaurants generating a combined $375 million in annual revenue.
   
   Upon the merger of Saga with Marriott in 1986, Larry departed and acquired Il
   Fornaio, negotiating the deal on the back of a napkin. At that time they were
   a collection of six money-losing small Italian bakeries in California. Under
   his direction, Il Fornaio reorganized every aspect of the operation into a
   bakery-backed restaurant and within ten months the first Il Fornaio Cucina
   Italiana e Panetteria opened in Corte Madera, California to overwhelming
   public and critical acclaim. By 2008 Il Fornaio operated twenty-two
   restaurants with annual revenues approaching $150 million.
   
   One of the highlights of Larry’s tenure at Il Fornaio was leading the
   company’s initial public offering in 1997 when the company began trading on
   NASDAQ until 2001, when the company went private again. “Growing restaurants
   rapidly really isn’t my thing,” Larry shared about the experience of being a
   publicly-traded company. “I try to do one restaurant at a time and make that
   the best restaurant I know how. If over time that turns out to be successful,
   I’ll do another. But usually after we open, I swear I will never open another
   restaurant, ever. Fortunately, that feeling always passes.” 
   
   Larry was the first American and the first person of non-Italian descent to
   be awarded the Caterina de Medici Medal from the Italian government,
   recognizing excellence in the preservation of Italian heritage outside of
   Italy. In 2003 he opened Poggio Trattoria in Sausalito as the ultimate
   expression of his passion for Italy. For the past decade it has been a
   top-ranked, three-starred San Francisco Bay area restaurant and received its
   highest accolade in 2015 when Poggio received the coveted Bib Gourmand
   designation from the Michelin Guide which recognizes "exceptional good food
   at moderate prices.” In 2012, as the result of a contested margarita making
   competition between Larry and celebrity chef Joanne Weir, they co-founded
   Copita Tequileria y Comida together.
   
   In 2016, Larry created Convivo Restaurant and Bar in the Santa Barbara Inn.
   The novel "Nomad Italian" restaurant was featured in the New York Times' 52
   Places to Visit in 2019. In addition to serving breakfast, lunch and dinner 7
   days a week, Convivo also provides catering and room service for the AAA Four
   Diamond hotel. Those at the Four Diamond level, just 6.3 percent of AAA
   inspected & approved hotels, must be "refined and stylish with upscale
   physical attributes, extensive amenities and a high degree of hospitality,
   service and attention to detail," a description as good as any for all the
   restaurants Larry has brought to life over the span of an amazingly
   successful career. 
   
   In his spare time, Larry serves on the board of the Cheesecake Factory, Inc.,
   enjoys fishing and spending time with his family.
