BELMONT STAKES FIELD

Bettors flipping the calendar now stare at June’s biggest landmark, the $1.5
million Belmont Stakes on June 8 at Saratoga Race Course in Saratoga Springs,
New York. This year’s event is taking place in Upstate New York as a result of
construction taking place at Belmont Park. The Belmont Stakes field for 2024 was
initially set at nine horses.

The date sneaks up on many fans because there will be no Triple Crown winner
this year. Victories by Mystik Dan in the Kentucky Derby and Seize the Grey in
the Preakness Stakes ensure that the Triple Crown will remain not swept since
Justify did the trick in 2018.

With or without a Triple Crown at stake, however, the Belmont is a major
destination in thoroughbred racing. As the race approaches, handicappers ponder
the probables list entering the final week.

The draw took place earlier this week and here is the field based on favorites
to longshots.

HOW BIG IS THE BELMONT STAKES FIELD?

The Belmont Stakes field is typically 8-10 horses. This year’s field features 10
horses. Last year’s Belmont Stakes field featured 9 horses. This is a much
smaller field than the Kentucky Derby, which usually runs 20 horses, but is
about on par with the Preakness – which usually runs 8 horses.

HORSE RACING WAGERS AND BETS

In addition to the traditional “straight” wagers (Win, Place, Show), fans can
also attempt to cash big in the various “exotic” pools. Exacta (first two),
Trifecta (first three) and Superfecta (first four) wagering are all offered, and
cashing a ticket in any of these pools can produce a bigger payday.

 * Win: Bet on the horse you think you will win the Belmont Stakes.
 * Place: Get paid the place price if your horse finishes first or second.
 * Show: A show bet pays the least, but you win and get paid the show price if
   your horse finishes first, second or third.
 * Exacta: Predict the first two horses in the correct order.
 * Trifecta: Predict the first three horses in the correct order.
 * Superfecta: Predict the first four horses in the correct order.
 * Super High Five: Predict the first five horses in the correct order.

The Belmont Stakes betting odds are finally determined by the pari-mutuel
system at the track which means your potential payout depends on how much money
is in the pot overall, divided by how many bets are placed. The odds will
fluctuate in the build-up to the race and never more so than in the final few
moments before post time. The odds will differ depending on which of the best
betting sites you go with.
