Apple World Central Located in one of the city’s iconic urban centers, the new
Apple World Central establishes a quiet sculptural presence at the heart of the
bustling Central World Square. Clad in warm timber, the central support is
formed of 1,461 European white oak profiles. The oak timber is split into
individual lamellas and bonded onto a spruce core for stability. Grounded at its
center, the circular roof projects out 10 feet (3 meters) to provide shade to
the glazed façade. Blurring the boundaries between the inside and the outside,
the glazed façade dematerializes to reveal the calm interiors of the store.

Meiken Lamwood Corp NKS Architects have designed the new head offices of the
Meiken Lamwood Corporation finishing the project off with a diagonal
lattice-like structure and v-shaped roof made from cross-laminated timber. The
brief called for the original office buildings to be brought under one roof,
allowing for a new way of working with hot desking and a cafe space for
socializing. The frame system is a structure in which diagonal lattices of
laminated timber are arranged in parallel, and v-shaped beams and roofs using
large spans of CLT. By dividing the building according to the shape of the site
and shifting it, displacement and movement also occurred in the internal
structure and space, creating an integrated space where the lattice-like frames

Koto Home Office Koto have created a cabin that serves as a place of deep work
and mediation, a contemplative room and an immersive space to connect with the
surrounding nature. The structure assumes an elegant and functional sculptural
geometric form with large glazing that frames views of the garden. The structure
is entirely natural and carbon neutral. The charred timber exterior draws from
Koto's Japanese design influence and the ancient Japanese philosophy Wabi Sabi,
focused on accepting the transient nature of life and the beauty in
imperfection. To achieve the final shape took many hours of meticulous

Roatán Próspera Residences Zaha Hadid Architects with AKT II and Hilson Moran
have developed a digital architectural platform to create homes for Roatán
Próspera. The residential designs are a specific ecological and social response
to the climate, terrain and culture of Roatán in the Caribbean, the largest of
the Bay Islands of Honduras. The designs learn from the wisdom of the past,
integrating the local vernacular tradition of timber construction, climatic
appropriateness and spatial experience with new digital design, engineering and
construction techniques.The design’s modular system is founded on the use of

GVC Clubhouse Basics Architects have designed a clubhouse as a ‘communal anchor’
for an urban housing society in Noida, India. The architects have devised a
facade system consisting of vertical greens and a wooden louver system made from
thermo-treated pine. The vertical green system was selected for its ability to
block the west sun but also on account that it would allow views of the pool
from the building interior. The angles of the louvers were carefully calculated
to effectively block the sun but also allow views. The series of green and
louver screens were alternated randomly to create dynamism and movement in the

CO-OP Ramen Marlon Blackwell Architects dish out a plywood interior at CO-OP
Ramen, a 2,000 square foot fast casual Arkansas ramen house. The design evolved
from the productive dissonance of the new and the old, the highly crafted and
happenstance. The space, constructed of simple and unrefined materials,
prominently concrete masonry units and plywood, exudes a richness through the
carefully composed textures of the space. Embracing the Japanese notion of wabi
sabi, which celebrates the asymmetries and imperfections in rough and natural
objects, the architects have also created a ‘cave' containing booths from simple
construction quality plywood, elevated by careful joinery and edge detailing,
highlighted by concealed light fixtures. Passing through the compressed
articulated space of the cave, the guest is released in to a spacious communal
seating area, spatially connected by under a deeply coffered plywood ceiling. .
