GOOD RENEWABLE JOBS FOR NY

SMARTER ENERGY = STRONGER ECONOMY

THANK YOU FOR A GREAT EVENT!

11/16/21-Developers, contractors, state officials, and community partners came together in Rochester to discuss the current state of renewable development in NY and the opportunities available through collaboration.

MAKING RENEWABLES RESPONSIBLE

Becoming less reliant on oil from hostile nations by developing North America’s
energy resources will improve our economy, create jobs, and strengthen national
security.  A balanced and comprehensive energy policy must include the expansion
of our nation’s wind and solar power infrastructure, especially in New York
State.

STRONGER TOGETHER

Renewable energy companies need the help of LIUNA to get their projects approved
and funded. Before we lend our support to projects, we can demand that energy
companies commit to providing high-quality job opportunities to local workers.
If we work together, we can make sure that New York’s energy future is
responsible.

NOT QUITE

THE GOOD
LOCAL JOBS BOOST THE ECONOMY

New Yorkers hear about major new building or infrastructure construction, and we
assume that the project will contribute to the local economy by putting local
people to work.

THE BAD
RENEWABLES ≠ RESPONSIBLE

While some project owners are committed to creating jobs for local residents,
others hire contractors that rely on out-of-state workers and shut locals out.

THE UGLY
BAIT-AND-SWITCH

The worst actors play a game of bait-and-switch: promoting construction job
opportunities while selling the project without disclosing that few, if any, of
the jobs will be filled by locals.
