WHAT IS NEPHROLOGY ?

structure, function, and diseases. It encompasses the diagnosis, treatment, and
management of kidney-related disorders, including chronic kidney disease (CKD),
acute kidney injury (AKI), glomerulonephritis, hypertension, and electrolyte
imbalances. Nephrologists are the medical professionals who delve deep into
kidney health, employing a range of diagnostic tests such as blood and urine
analysis, imaging studies, and kidney biopsies to assess kidney function and
identify the root cause of renal problems. They play a crucial role in managing
dialysis treatments for patients with end-stage renal disease and in the medical

HemodiafiltrationHemodiafiltration combines the best of both hemodialysis and
filtration, offering an effective solution for reducing some of the unwanted
symptoms associated with dialysis.

Why Might I Require Jaw Surgery?

Jaw surgery may be necessary when there’s a significant misalignment in your jaw
structure, which braces alone cannot correct. This procedure is essential for
aligning your jaws properly to ensure effective orthodontic treatment.

What Can I Expect from Orthognathic Surgery?

Orthognathic surgery not only aligns your jaws for improved functionality but
also can enhance your facial aesthetics. Post-surgery, patients often report
better functionality in biting and chewing, clearer speech, and for some, a
reduction in snoring issues.

Is Jaw Surgery Purely Aesthetic?

The primary goal of jaw surgery is to correct functional problems with your jaw.
While it often results in an improved facial profile, the focus is on restoring
proper jaw function and alignment.

Will Plates and Screws be Involved in My Surgery?

In most jaw surgeries, plates and screws are utilized to secure the jaw in its
new position. These are typically small, biocompatible, and designed to

Will There Be Visible Scarring Post-Surgery?

Jaw surgery is predominantly performed inside the mouth, minimizing any external

Can MediSave or Insurance Cover the Surgery?

Yes, both MediSave and most insurance policies cover jaw surgery as it’s
recognized as a medical necessity, not a cosmetic choice. Coverage details can
vary, so we recommend checking with your specific plan.

Will I Need to Stay in the Hospital, and For How Long?

Hospital stays vary depending on the complexity of the surgery. Typically, a
short stay of a few days is required for monitoring and initial recovery.

Are There Specific Dietary Guidelines After Surgery?

Post-surgery, a soft or liquid diet is usually recommended for a few weeks. This
is to ensure proper healing and to avoid putting stress on your newly aligned
jaw.

When Can I Resume Regular Activities Post-Surgery?

Light activities can be resumed a few weeks after surgery, but it’s advisable to
avoid strenuous exercises for at least two months. Activities posing a risk to
the face should be avoided for about six months.

What's the Timeline for Jaw Surgery Treatment?

The complete process, including pre-surgical orthodontics and post-surgical
adjustments, typically spans 1.5 to 2 years. Some cases may allow for
accelerated timelines.

Who Will Manage the Bite Correction Process?

Bite correction is usually managed by an orthodontist, who works in tandem with
your surgeon to ensure the best possible alignment and functionality of your jaw
post-surgery.

What's the difference between V Line Surgery & Orthognathic Surgery?

V Line Surgery is performed along the mandible & chin area. This type of surgery
is purely for aesthetic reasons. However, Orthognathic surgery focuses on
correcting misalignment of the upper & lower jaw.

What if my teeth are not aligned after the surgery?

There won’t be any misalignment after the surgery. Speak to our Oral Surgeon to
know more information and to see the before & after photos.

Do I need to wear braces after the jaw surgery?

About 80 – 90% of the cases require braces after the surgery. Since the upper &
lower jaws will be realigned, there will be change in your natural bite as well.
Therefore, it is important to wear braces after the jaw surgery to re-calibrate
your bite.

your convenience.
