It’s just a few months to go till we kick off the first micebook Ventures in
Liverpool, so we thought we’d give you the complete lowdown on what it is, why
it matters, what to expect, and why you need to be there!

What is Ventures in a nutshell?

As with all micebook events, Ventures has community at its heart. It will bring
together event industry buyers and suppliers to learn, develop, and make
valuable connections to help them create better, more sustainable and more
impactful experiences. But Ventures also has a bigger mission. We want to
transform the world of business events as a ‘Force for Good’, tackling how the
sector can evolve to serve both society and major brands and pivot to Net
Positive for long-term sustainable success.

Ventures will not solve all the problems of the world in two days, but we’ll
start the process away from CSR-thinking to a more systemic, Net Positive
outlook through some unmissable experiences of the opportunities, technologies
and innovations emerging from centres of excellence such as Knowledge Quarter
Liverpool, to help us all Re-Build Better.

Why does this matter?

CSR or sustainability ‘on the side’ is simply not enough anymore. It needs to be
systemically inbuilt into the purpose of a business for employees, clients and
the entire supply chain to be affected at the pace and scale required to
level-up global societies, while slowing the twin growth of greenhouse emissions
and biodiversity loss.

The UK government already introduced mandatory climate change reporting rules
from April this year. Firms are now required to disclose climate-related
financial information, ensuring they consider the risks and opportunities they
face because of climate change, in line with Taskforce on Climate-related
Financial Disclosures (TCFD) recommendations.

While these rules focus on large corporations, the expectation is that they may
soon also apply to small and medium-sized businesses too (SMEs) – meaning all
businesses will have to act sooner or later.

As a major contributor to global carbon emissions, the meeting and events
industry cannot sit this one out. In addition to reducing our environmental
impact as an industry, business events have an important role to play as a key
facilitator in bringing together leaders in sustainability to solve challenges,
share ideas and develop solutions.

This is exactly our vision for Ventures. We are creating a new tribe, a movement
of leadership minds and showing business events change-makers live examples of
these things in action while demonstrating why industry-wide collaboration is
critical to make real and lasting change.

Where and when is it?

The event takes place on Monday 31 October to Wednesday 2 November in the
Knowledge Quarter Liverpool, with venue partners including Spaces at the Spine –
the new £55m headquarters of the Royal College of Physicians’ and one of the
UK’s healthiest and most intelligent buildings – the brand-new Novotel
Paddington Village, ACC Liverpool and Liverpool Cathedral.

What can you expect at the event?

At its core this event is founded on the 1:1 buyer-supplier meetings model but
with a unique twist. Participants will join up to 30 one-to-one meetings but in
a relaxed setting split over the live programme and virtual event mornings.

Our primary aim is to move away from the super-stacked, death-by-meetings
environment and provide an alternative setting, which continues to offer the
opportunity to talk one-on-one, but also provide practical, shared experiences,
which address global issues through a dynamic, experiential programme.

Highlights include the pioneering social economy enterprise Farm Urban, one of
Liverpool’s world-class sporting clubs, the most spectacular best-kept secret
events venue that gives back more than it takes and one of Liverpool
University’s most advanced, new technology labs for a glimpse into the real
future of digital, human collaboration. Watch this space – more to be announced
very soon!

Keynote debates will feature experts from the business, science, politics,
education and creative industries including Rob Hopkins, Director & Head of
Sustainability, AHR Architects – the design brains behind our host venue The
Spine, which has achieved multiple awards; and diversity & Inclusion
specialists, Eugene Wilkes and Jon Briggs of Include Me.

There will also be wake-Up wellness options and networking drinks, lunches and
dinners throughout the three-day programme, plus an after-party with a musical
difference in the city that launched a thousand bands.

How can Ventures22 rationalise Sustainability through a live event with some
emissions impact?

micebook Ventures is 100% meat and fast-fashion free! We are promoting ‘light
touch’ delegate transportation both to and within Liverpool, reducing our
emissions footprint at every stage of the programme while measuring and
reporting live (via our ‘Ventures Swingometer’ in collaboration with Event
Decision), on the potential for decarbonised change.

We are carbon offsetting yes – but only after doing all possible to reduce our
footprint in the first place. This requires a whole new meeting planner mindset
on destination/venue selection and programme design with Purpose. We’re lighting
a very Sustainable fuse, helping our sector learn through live experience while
connecting like-minded buyers and suppliers who can do responsible live event
business together in future.

Who is it targeted at?

Our application procedure ensures that Ventures is open only to the most
influential, purpose-driven sector leaders who share micebook’s vision of a new
way, amidst the convergence of existential challenges to society, the planet,
democracy and the live industry itself. Is the world a better place because your
own company is in it?

Who’s going?

We already have leaders signed up from top businesses within the events sector
including OrangeDoor, Sledge, Switzerland Convention & Incentive Bureau,
Singapore Tourism Board, Monte-Carlo SBM, Visit Monaco, Pure Arabia and Dublin
CVB to name just a handful.
