This is the first ever E-Learning edition of Raider Nation News. Filmed and
edited completely off site. We are so proud of our dedicated staff for creating
this newscast amid the school closures and COVID-19 concerns. We will be here
providing District 158 and local Coronavirus updates when they come available.
Please turn on push-notifications to alerted as soon as we post. On todays RNN
we talked with members of Student Council about upcoming events at HHS. While
these events have not yet been canceled, depending on the nature of the COVID-19
virus there may be cancellations in the future. Some of our students created an
informative TIK TOK to show you the proper way to wash your hands. It is
important to use soap and warm water while scrubbing your hands for at least 20
seconds. Be sure to wash your hands often to protect against COVID-19. Reporter
Isabella Cangiolosi set up a FaceTime call with Superintendent Dr. Rowe and HHS
Principal Mr. Belin for some important updates from the district and high
school. While we do not have clear information on prom, graduation, or other HHS
events at this point, we will be sure to keep you updated as soon we receive
news. Finally, we talk with Mr. Brown and some members of The Voice as well as
Travel Club for some updates on IHSA competitions and upcoming trips. While the
cancellation of these events is disappointing, we are glad precautions have been

going to the cross country meet tonight, you may want to bring a light jacket as
we're looking at a low of 60°. Saturday, we're back in the mid 70's with a high
of 76°, breezy in the morning with a little bit of sun. Sunday will only be
slightly cooler with a high of 74° and more sun. So make sure to get out this
weekend. If you're participating in or attending any outside sports or
activities this weekend, we recommend that you bring a pair of sunglasses and

look at our first story. 5 Most Bought Christmas Gifts During the COVID-19
pandemic, most people have been shopping online to stay safe for the holidays,
but have you ever thought about what most people are actually shopping for? One
of our curious reporters, Jacob Habel did some research on some popular products
that the world has been shopping for. Kings Hockey Four schools come together to
compete with the best hockey players in the state. HHS is one of those schools!
Let's dive deeper into what kings hockey is all about. Little Blessed Kitchen Do
you enjoy baked goods? Do you have thoughts of opening a business? If you said
yes to either of those things then this next segment is for you. RNN reporter
Josie Curtin talks to local bakery owner Mary Holzkopf (Holdz-Cough) about
opening a business and baking Weather Hi Raiders. I’m Paige DeSimone and I'll be
your weatherman today. Let’s take a look at this weekend’s forecast. Saturday we
will experience morning showers transitioning into light snow later in the day.
We will only reach a high of 43 and experience temperatures as low as 27
degrees. Sunday will be fairly dry with no precipitation but will reach some low
temps. The high will only reach up to 33 and go all the way down to 22 degrees.
The Shop & Dine Ornament Hunt ends tomorrow, Saturday the 12th, at noon. Attend
and find a Huntley ornament hidden somewhere in or around the town square to

News! This month, our RAD team is recognizing and celebrating Women in America.
Join them TOMORROW, Saturday, March 19th from 10 am -1 pm as they Celebrate with
a Women’s Empowerment Showcase. Support women-owned businesses, participate in
wellness activities for the whole family, and learn about community resources.
Enter by Door 1 and get ready for a wonderful community celebration. As you’ve
been walking in the halls this week, you’ve probably heard different types of
2-minute music playing, and the daily announcements being read differently. I’m
joining as a guest anchor on RNN this week to promote the theme for this year’s
National Foreign Language Week: Celebrate humanity through language. The HHS
Vocational Skills class has a candle-making business called EdSpecial Scents.
Students from the class are holding a fundraiser next Friday, March 25th. They
are selling sunflower scented candles during all lunch periods in the commons
for $5 with all money being donated to the relief efforts in Ukraine. We all
have heard, seen and experienced the impacts of the recent food shortages. But
many of us don’t know how this issue came about, or what is to be done about it.
With China now facing its worst outbreak in two years as the country reports
more than 2,000 new COVID cases daily, prepare for the potential of supply
chains being disrupted more than they already are. Last spring, student council
hosted a senior soiree in place of prom due to COVID-19 restrictions. This year,
however, prom is back! RNN reporter Jasmine Thompson is here to tell us more.

floor raiders! Have you ever wondered what furry friend greets your teachers
after a long workday? Let’s take a look at some of our teacher’s pets. Do you

News! As the first week of Women’s History Month comes to a close, we have a
very special interview from one of HHS’s female leaders to share more about how
women have paved their way into history. Be sure to follow both the WELL club
and the Leo’s club on social media. We appreciate each and every woman who has
engraved her name into history. To celebrate women in our community, save the
date for Recognizing American Diversity’s next community event, the Women's
Empowerment Showcase, on March 19th, from 10am - 1pm here at Huntley High
School. With the recent ending of the football season and the Rams winning the
superbowl, baseball season is right around the corner… well hopefully, since MLB
is in a lockout now. Let's turn it to Andrew Spaid to tell us more. Though it
sounds like the MLB is a mess, Huntley baseball just finished tryouts this week.
The team is currently ranked 3 in the state. Here’s to a great season! Since the
introduction of new technologies into education, a lot has evolved. There was a
very recent announcement that the SAT will be one of these aspects to change.
Even though some schools are not requiring the test for admittance, the scores
can still be used as scholarships. Make sure to keep studying because the SAT is
right around the corner! Speaking of the SAT, this weekend, there is “MSAT”. The
MSAT --created by the MSCHF collective, the company that worked with rapper Lil
Nas X’s to produce the infamous “Satan Shoes”-- will be mocking the SAT test and
actually encourages you to cheat. The test will be tomorrow. Register today to

News! Leos club raised $520 dollars to support people with epilepsy. If you
contributed make sure to get your rose! Since the introduction of new
technologies into education, a lot has changed. There was a very recent
announcement that the SAT will be one of these aspects to change. Let’s take a
closer look. Valentine’s day is next Monday, February 14th. ANCHOR 1: We sent
RNN reporter Sean McGuckin next door to Leggee to ask the kids, What is love?
Now that you know what elementary schoolers' opinions are on love, let's hear
from one of our reporters, Teagan Thompson, who interviewed some of our teachers

into Black History Month. RNN Reporter Jasmine Thompson sat down with students
from our school in recognition of Black History Month. We’ve all seen the
eye-popping stand that has a smell of fresh coffee beans located in the commons.
RNN Reporter Sariah Okirika asked fellow Raider Nation students what their
favorite drink was from the Raider way cafe. (Photo Editors Suck, Unapologetic
Leadership, Hot Girls Do Journalism, Anytime Sports Podcast, Hungry Kanye, The
Dish, Gen Z in a nutshell) Current trends of podcasts both locally & globally
are thriving. Many students around the Huntley community are starting up
podcasts of their own. One of our very own reporters, Jacob Habel, took a deeper
dive into this trend to get the perspective of those who were inspired & those
